Ronnie, one of the greatest players in history was on the way to win his 6^th World Snooker Championship, but the 23-year old Cahill changed that by completing an incredible 10-8 first-round win at the Crucible in Sheffield.  O’Sullivan and Cahill had trailed 5-4 after the opening session, but later O’Sullivan managed to tied up the match to 8-8 and bring himself back. However, that wasn’t enough to win, as he gave many opportunities to Cahill who took almost all of them, leading to his victory by 10-8. 

Ronnie said he had troubles because of his insomnia and that for a match, he needs to be mentally and physically ready and he was feeling up for it mentally but not physically. O’Sullivan also congratulated Cahill on his good game and said he played brilliantly. 

James Cahill lost his professional status back in 2017 and his highest world ranking is 76^th. He managed to stay focused, showing he can keep his nerves even under a lot of pressure. He will face Stephen Maguire from Scotland in the second round.
