]]>Shiffrin was previously tied with Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark, with both having 86 career wins in the competition. The fact that her record-breaking win came in slalom will be particularly pleasing for Shiffrin, considering it also extends her record in the discipline to 53 wins.
“Pretty hard to comprehend,” Shiffrin told reporters when asked how she feels about her achievement.
Shiffrin made her skiing debut in 2011 as a 15-year-old and has since established herself as one of the best and most decorated skiers in the history of winter sports. She already locked her fifth Ski World Cup title in 2023 and will also finish the year with the 10th discipline title in slalom. The Vail, Colorado, native also has three individual titles from Winter Olympics.
Mikaela Shiffrin will still have a chance to add to her record before the skiing season ends. She is set to take part in World Cup Finals next week, where she will compete in three races.

]]>The members of the International Olympic Committee finally voted on the location and they chose Northern Italy as the site of the 2026 Winter Olympics, with hosting to be shared by the Milan and the Alpine ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo. The resort will be the host of the Winter Olympics for the second time in its history, after hosting the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1956. The opening ceremony will be held at San Siro in Milan and the closing ceremony will be held in the Verona Arena.
The Italian bid was chosen over a dual bid between Stockholm and the ski resort of Are in Sweden. Given the amount of public support for Italy as the next location, the result was more or less expected. The last time that Italy hosted the Winter Olympics was back in 2006 when the event was held in Turin.

]]>Lindsey Vonn has decided to retire from skiing after a decorated career. After suffering several serious injuries in what can be a dangerous sport, Vonn decided to call it quits at 34 years old.
Vonn has gone through several injuries in recent years that have slowed her down, but have never kept her from competing. These injuries have included a fractured ankle, torn knee ligaments, and broken arm bones.
Vonn strapped on her skis for the last time in a competition on Sunday in the World Championships in Are, Sweden. Vonn has previously won 43 gold medals in downhill World Championship races.
While Vonn didn’t take home the top prize on Sunday, her bronze medal was no small feat in the last race of her storied career.
The St. Paul, Minnesota native will go down as one of the most decorated female downhill skiers in the history of the sport. The highlight of her career was a gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Now, she will embark on what will hopefully be a safe and happy retirement.
