Retired Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck said on multiple occasions that he has no interest in returning to the NFL. However, that doesn’t seem to discourage teams from trying to change their mind.

The interest in Luck seems to be so strong that Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, with whom the player spent all of his seven seasons in the league, was prompted to issue a hands-off warning. Irsay recently went on Twitter to warn teams that inquiring about Luck represents a “clear Violation of the League’s Tampering Policy.”

Luck retired ahead of the 2019 NFL season with three years left on his six-year, $140 million contract with the Colts. This means that Indianapolis still holds Luck’s rights, so even if a team convinces him to return to professional football, they would have to work out a trade.

Irsay’s warning comes after reports that the Washington Commanders were trying to gauge Luck’s interest in returning to NFL. The Commanders reportedly contacted individuals close to the former player in 2022 but received a negative response.

It is worth noting that the Colts also tried to get Luck back on the field in the past, only for the 33-year-old player to reiterate that he’s done with football.

Luck made 86 starts with the Colts between 2012 and 2018, leading the franchise to a 53-33 regular season record. He was named to four Pro Bowls and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2018.

The NFL world was stunned on Saturday when 29-year-old Indianapolis Colts quarterbacked Andrew Luck announced his retirement from the game of football.

The Stanford alum originally planned to announce his retirement in a Sunday press conference but was forced into rushing an announcement on Saturday night after the news was leaked on social media.

Luck spoke of the effects of multiple injuries, including concussions, a kidney injury, and a calf and ankle sprain that prevented him from participating in the preseason with the AFC South favorites as part of the reason that he’s decided to give up the game at such a young age.

The four-time Pro Bowler simply stated that he was mentally exhausted from the toll of playing professional football and that he knew it was the right decision to hang up the cleats.

Despite missing the entirety of 2017 due to injury, Luck was one of the premier quarterbacks in the league ever since he was drafted first overall in 2012.

He threw for 171 touchdowns and 83 interceptions in what was an excellent, but brief, career.

The Colts will now turn to former backup Jacoby Brissett at the quarterback position, hoping that he will provide even half of the magic that luck did during his Colts career.

The Indianapolis Colts have revealed that Andrew Luck is now dealing with a high ankle sprain and that his status for Week 1 of the NFL season is in question. What’s not in question is that the star quarterback will not be able to participate at all in this year’s preseason with Indianapolis.

Luck has had a mysterious battle with a calf strain since March, when he was diagnosed with the initial injury. He reportedly suffered the strain during an off-season training session and took steps to rehab the injury after joining the Colts for preseason practice.

However, in a conference call with reporters yesterday, Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay stated that Luck is dealing with a “small little bone injury” in his ankle, casting doubt on what’s really going on with Luck’s leg. The team’s admission that the quarterback might not be ready for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers has put fans on edge, as they know that the Pro Bowl quarterback is the team’s most important player.

For now, the team expects Luck to continue rehab as he skips the preseason, hopefully being ready in time for Week 1. If not, the team will look to backup Jacoby Brissett to lead them at the start of the 2019 season.
