All-Star Anthony Davis is staying with Los Angeles Lakers for five more years. Davis and Lakers agreed to a new five-year deal, worth $190 million.

The contract runs through the 2024-25 season and gives Davis an early termination option after the fourth year.

Davis’ agent Rich Paul confirmed the agreement in a chat with ESPN, adding that his client is expected to ink the contract in the following days.

Davis, who joined the Lakers last offseason in a blockbuster trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, reportedly didn’t even consider going elsewhere despite being an unrestricted free agent this summer. The only unknown revolved around the type of contract he will sign.

In recent weeks, the 27-year-old considered various scenarios that included both short-term and long-term commitments to the Lakers. In the end, he decided to play it safe and take the max offer.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis helped the franchise win its first NBA Title since 2010 while playing some of his best basketball. During the regular season, Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game while earning First-Team All-NBA and All-Star nods and finishing runner-up in NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Davis’ production went up in the postseason, scoring 27.7 points per game while adding 9.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Locking Davis long-term comes just days after the Lakers also signed superstar LeBron James to a new contract. With the two on board, the franchise reassured basketball fans that they’ll remain in the title conversation for years to come.

Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Anthony Davis repeated multiple times this season that he intends to enter the free agency in the summer. And it looks like he didn’t change his mind despite the fact that Lakers are currently sitting at the top of Western Conference.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, Davis recently rejected the contract extension offer from the Lakers. The team came with a four-year, $146 million max extension, but the 26-year-old opted to pass in order to hit the free agency.

Player’s agent Rich Paul delivered the news to the Lakers on Tuesday night, saying that Davis wants to focus on the current season.

Davis’ decision to reject the offer from the Lakers was expected. There was no incentive for him to accept the extension midway through the season since he can command a much bigger offer six months from now. It is projected that he will be able to get a five-year, $202 million max contract in the summer.

Since coming to LA in a blockbuster deal in June, Anthony Davis helped the Lakers to 29-7 start while putting his name into consideration for NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Davis is currently averaging 27.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks per game.
