The Los Angeles Lakers probably had a collective sigh of relief on Friday when they learned that superstar Anthony Davis’ foot injury is not as serious as they initially believed. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are now optimistic that they could have Davis back in early January.

Wojnarowski reports that the pain in Davis’ foot “has subsided” lately and that the 29-year-old player is now set to have up to 10 days of rest before being re-evaluated. The Lakers hope he’ll be ready to play shortly after that.

Davis suffered a foot injury in a 126-103 win over the Denver Nuggets last week after colliding with Nikola Jokic. The Lakers initially branded the injury as “foot soreness” but internally feared that the All-Star forward might need a procedure. After putting the player through a number of tests in recent days, the team now feels the surgery won’t be necessary and is referring to Davis’ condition as “a stress injury.”

If Davis manages to get back on the reported timeline, that would be great news for the Lakers. He has been by far their best player, averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. He has also put himself in the conversation for NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

The Lakers are already finding out that life without Davis is quite hard. They are currently on a three-game losing streak that dropped their record to 13-19.

All-Star Anthony Davis is staying with Los Angeles Lakers for five more years. Davis and Lakers agreed to a new five-year deal, worth $190 million.

The contract runs through the 2024-25 season and gives Davis an early termination option after the fourth year.

Davis’ agent Rich Paul confirmed the agreement in a chat with ESPN, adding that his client is expected to ink the contract in the following days.

Davis, who joined the Lakers last offseason in a blockbuster trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, reportedly didn’t even consider going elsewhere despite being an unrestricted free agent this summer. The only unknown revolved around the type of contract he will sign.

In recent weeks, the 27-year-old considered various scenarios that included both short-term and long-term commitments to the Lakers. In the end, he decided to play it safe and take the max offer.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis helped the franchise win its first NBA Title since 2010 while playing some of his best basketball. During the regular season, Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game while earning First-Team All-NBA and All-Star nods and finishing runner-up in NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Davis’ production went up in the postseason, scoring 27.7 points per game while adding 9.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Locking Davis long-term comes just days after the Lakers also signed superstar LeBron James to a new contract. With the two on board, the franchise reassured basketball fans that they’ll remain in the title conversation for years to come.

Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Anthony Davis repeated multiple times this season that he intends to enter the free agency in the summer. And it looks like he didn’t change his mind despite the fact that Lakers are currently sitting at the top of Western Conference.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, Davis recently rejected the contract extension offer from the Lakers. The team came with a four-year, $146 million max extension, but the 26-year-old opted to pass in order to hit the free agency.

Player’s agent Rich Paul delivered the news to the Lakers on Tuesday night, saying that Davis wants to focus on the current season.

Davis’ decision to reject the offer from the Lakers was expected. There was no incentive for him to accept the extension midway through the season since he can command a much bigger offer six months from now. It is projected that he will be able to get a five-year, $202 million max contract in the summer.

Since coming to LA in a blockbuster deal in June, Anthony Davis helped the Lakers to 29-7 start while putting his name into consideration for NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Davis is currently averaging 27.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks per game.

Although Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Anthony Davis is a free agent next summer, everyone expects him to remain with the franchise for years to come. However, it looks like Davis himself isn’t 100 percent committed to staying in LA just yet and is entertaining the idea of playing for his hometown team Chicago Bulls.

Davis was in Chicago on Tuesday for the Lakers’ game against the Bulls, and used the opportunity to spend some time with the basketball teams of his alma mater Perspectives Charter School. During the Q&A segment, one athlete decided to ask the 26-year-old All-Star whether he would consider playing for the Bulls if he had a chance for that.

“Honestly, it’s nothing like playing at home,” Davis responded. “I don’t know. … I mean, I am a free agent next year, but we’ll see. It’s a possibility.”

While Anthony Davis most likely just wanted to please the home crowd, the fact is that the Chicago Bulls have a talented young team that is on the rise. If Lakers don’t fulfill Davis’ NBA title hopes soon and Bulls keep on getting better, nothing guarantees that he won’t get homesick in the future.

Davis also added that he considers Chicago to be the Mecca of basketball given all the success the city had in the past and the talent that it produced.

“I mean, it is. We’ve got the best basketball players ever,” he explained. “You look at the history with all the guys we’ve got that made the league and even the guys that didn’t make the league. They say New York, but it’s not even close.”

Davis is currently having a great start of the season with the Lakers, averaging 28.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.0 blocks per game.
