]]>As part of the trade, the Diamondbacks are sending right-hand pitcher Carlos Vargas and veteran catcher Seby Zavala to Seattle.
Speaking with reporters about the trade, Diamondbacks’ general manager Mike Hazen said that the move will give the team more stability on third base.
“It adds a little bit of stability at that spot,” Hazen said. “He’s a guy we’ve liked for a long time.”
Suarez played in all 162 games with the Mariners this past season, batting .232 with 22 home runs and 96 RBIs. The 32-year-old player has had at least 21 homers in each season since 2016, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign.
Suarez, who was an All-Star in 2018, will fill the position of need for the Diamondbacks. Veteran Evan Longoria became a free agent, Buddy Kennedy went to the St. Louis Cardinals through waivers, and the team traded Josh Rojas ahead of the trade deadline.
The Mariners, on the other hand, get out of Suarez’s contract, which pays him $11 million in 2024, while getting two useful players in return. Vargas is still a developmental player, having played just five games in relief this season and finishing the campaign with a 5.79 ERA and seven strikeouts. Zavala, on the other hand, has a .210 career batting average with 14 home runs and 54 RBIs.

]]>All of Diamondback’s runs came from home runs and they hit all four of them in the third inning. This made them the first team in MLB postseason history to hit four or more homers in a single inning. To put things in perspective, the most home runs scored in a single postseason game is six.
Geraldo Perdomo opened the home run fest with a 383-feet homer with Ketel Marte, Christian Walker, and Gabriel Moreno all following suit.
“That’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Walker said after the game.
The Arizona Diamondbacks managed to sneak into the 2023 MLB postseason after finishing the regular season with 84-78 record. But Arizona has looked like a real deal so far. They have managed to sweep the NL Central champions Milwaukee Brewers in the wild-card game and have now knocked out the 100-win Dodgers.
The Diamondbacks are now heading to the NL Championship Series for the first time since 2007. They will either face the Atlanta Braves or the Philadelphia Phillies for a chance to make their second World Series appearance in franchise history.

]]>The post Diamondbacks RF Kole Calhoun Set to Have Knee Surgery appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>According to Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, Calhoun suffered the injury during the offseason training and will require surgery. As a result, the 33-year-old veteran might be forced to miss Opening Day of the 2021 MLB season next month.
“Obviously concerned,” said Lovullo when asked how he feels about Calhoun’s absence. “I don’t want to sugarcoat that, but I know it’s going to give an opportunity to some other guys, and I’m excited about that as well.”
Calhoun was one of Arizona’s top performers last season, leading the team with 16 home runs. He batted .226 while adding 40 RBIs in 58 games.
If Calhoun misses significant time, the Diamondbacks are expected to fill the void in-house. This could mean more opportunities for some of their youngsters, including their 2017 draft picks Pavin Smith and Daulton Varsho.
Kole Calhoun spent most of his MLB career with the LA Angels, playing eight years for the franchise. He came to Arizona as a free agent last offseason, inking a two-year, $16 million deal.
Calhoun, a Golden Glove Award winner in 2015, has a .248 career batting average to go with 156 homers and 491 RBIs.

]]>Clippard, who already played in Arizona back in 2016, will earn $1.75 million in 2021 according to the agreement. There is also a $3.5 million mutual option for 2022 that comes with a $500K buyout.
The news is expected to become official once Clippard undergoes his physical.
Clippard spent the shortened 2020 MLB season with the Minnesota Twins. He played 26 games, posting a 2.77 ERA with 26 strikeouts and a 2-1 record. The Twins had the interest to keep him, but the two sides couldn’t get to a deal.
The 36-year-old veteran, who has two All-Star nods, is expected to bolster the Diamondbacks’ bullpen that has been painfully inconsistent in recent years. He will join another new addition Joakim Soria and several returning players from 2020, including closer Stefan Crichton, setup man Kevin Ginkel, and relief pitcher Alex Young.
Tyler Clippard made his MLB debut in 2007 and went on to play for 10 more different organizations. He has a 55–47 career record with 3.13 ERA, 931 strikeouts, and 98 saves.

]]>The post Diamondbacks SP Madison Bumgarner Heads to IL With Back Strain appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>After yet another disastrous outing on Sunday, the Diamondbacks placed Madison Bumgarner on the 10-day injured list with a back strain.
Bumgarner, who compiled an inflated 9.35 ERA in his first four starts for Arizona, had trouble reaching the fastball velocity that helped him become one of baseball’s best starters during the past decade. During his Sunday start against the Padres, which saw him give up six runs in only two innings, he barely registered 86 miles per hour on the radar gun.
It appears that the big lefty’s struggles had something to do with this injury, which he apparently tried to pitch through at the beginning of the season. After Bumgarner’s lack of effectiveness became apparent, his team was left with no other option but to give him a rest.
The start of Bumgarner’s five-year, $85 million contract has been inconspicuous, but he will have plenty of time to right the ship after he gets healthy again.
The Diamondbacks called up right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley to replace Bumgarner on the roster.
