United States international striker Aron Johannsson might not be coming home after all. According to multiple reports from Europe, Johannsson is on the radar of Lech Poznan, and there is a good chance he continues his career in Poland.

Johannsson terminated his contract with Swedish side Hammarby IF at the end of 2020 and has been looking for a new club ever since. He initially expressed interest in playing in the MLS or returning to Bundesliga, but neither seems like a viable option now.

According to ESPN, Lech presented an offer to Johannsson in recent weeks, and the two sides are currently in “advanced talks.” Sources say that only some finer details are left to be ironed out and that it would need a big last-minute offer to get the 30-year-old player to change his mind.

Lech Poznan is one of Poland’s most recognizable clubs and has won the national title seven times. They have been experiencing some poor form in 2020-21, however, and are currently No. 10 in the standings with zero wins in their last five matches.

Aron Johannsson played in Iceland and Denmark early in his career before securing a move to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2013. After three successful seasons in the Netherlands, in which he scored 39 goals in 81 games, Johannsson joined Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

But shortly after arriving in Germany, Johannsson started experiencing issues with injuries and never managed to show off his talent in full. Following four disappointing years with Bremen, he went to Sweden in an attempt to resurrect his career.

Johannsson made his debut with USMNT in 2013 and has scored four goals in 19 games. His last appearance, however, came in 2015.

U.S. international Aron Johannsson’s stint with Sweden side Hammarby IF is coming to an end, and the 30-year-old striker is looking towards MLS as he considers his next move.

Speaking with Sebastian Salazar in a recent interview, Johannsson said that he plans to leave Hammarby in January after the current Allsvenskan campaign comes to an end.

“It looks like I will be parting ways with Hammarby to go somewhere else,” Johannsson revealed. “I’m not sure exactly now where I will go, but as things stand now I will leave in January.”

While Johannsson doesn’t rule return to German Bundesliga, where he previously played for Werder Bremen, the former USMNT attacker told Salazar that Major League Soccer is a very attractive option for him.

“I’ve always said it’s a goal of mine to play in MLS,” he added. “I’m very interested in MLS, and [playing there] is something I’ve dreamt about for a very long time.”

Aron Johannsson spent the early part of his career playing in Iceland and Denmark before moving to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. While in the Netherlands, Johannsson established himself as an efficient goal scorer, finding the net 39 times in 81 games and securing himself a blockbuster move to Werder.

The injuries limited his production in Bremen, but it appears that Johannsson is rediscovering his form as of late. He scored 15 goals in 27 matches for Hammarby this year and is the club’s best goalscorer.

Johannsson made his debut with USMNT in 2013 and has 19 appearances for the senior team. He scored four goals in U.S. jersey so far.
