Six-time NBA All-Star Blake Griffin will play for the Boston Celtics next season. Griffin reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the franchise on Friday.

Griffin spent the past season with the Brooklyn Nets. He played a limited role in 2021-22, averaging 17.1 minutes on the floor and putting up 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

According to ESPN’s insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin’s deal with the Celtics is fully guaranteed.

Despite Griffin losing the athleticism that made him one of the best power forwards in the league at one point, his size and experience should prove beneficial for the Celtics. Boston’s frontcourt is riddled with injuries at the moment, with center Robert Williams III set to miss up to two months after knee surgery and forward Danilo Gallinari is out for the season after tearing his ACL.

Blake Griffin was drafted first overall in 2009 by the Los Angeles Clippers. After missing his rookie season due to a knee injury, Griffin went on to get five consecutive All-Star nods between 2011 and 2015 while also making the All-NBA teams four times.

Griffin left LA midway through 2017–18 as part of the Clippers’ rebuild and ended up with the Detroit Pistons. He spent three years in Detroit, earning another All-Star nod, before being bought out by the franchise towards the end of the 2020–21 campaign. He later signed with the Nets.

Throughout his NBA career, Griffin averaged 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.1 points per game.

If you thought the Brooklyn Nets were scary before, get ready for yet another shocker: Blake Griffin has just signed with them as well.

The six-time All-Star power forward had been fielding offers from a few different teams, but opted to sign with Brooklyn, where he felt he had the best chance of winning a championship. Griffin reportedly signed a deal for the veteran minimum, meaning that he took a huge pay cut in hopes that he’ll get a ring.

The Nets have been slowly but surely turning themselves into one of the biggest juggernauts we’ve seen in a while. Sure, they’re still a relatively new team, and need to prove themselves in the playoffs. But if you judge it by their accolades on paper, they have one of the most stacked rosters of all time.

Griffin joins Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving in hopes that they’ll manage to band together into something cohesive come playoff time. The crazy thing is, none of these superstars were even on the Nets two years ago. Irving and Durant both signed with them last season, and Harden was acquired via trade a few months ago.

Nothing is guaranteed in the NBA, and they’ll certainly have their work cut out for them. The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, and some other teams are contenders as well. But look out NBA, because Brooklyn is coming.

Six-time All-Star forward Blake Griffin has an opportunity for a fresh start. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin and the Detroit Pistons agreed to a contract buyout on Thursday, paving the way for the 31-year-old veteran to become a free agent.

The two sides decided to go their separate ways last month after the team decided to focus on developing their younger players. At the time, general manager Troy Weaver said Griffin won’t suit up for the Pistons and that the team is looking for a trade partner.

Griffin’s huge contract, which pays him $36.6 million this season and $39 million next season, made the trade impossible, so Detroit opted for the buyout route. It is believed that Griffin agreed to leave some money on the table in order to make this happen.

Blake Griffin has already become a hot commodity on the free-agent market, with the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Brooklyn Nets interested in his services. The Nets are currently the favorites as Griffin reportedly believes they give him the best chance to win an NBA title.

Griffin joined the Detroit Pistons in 2018 in a blockbuster trade from the LA Clippers. During his time in Detroit, Griffin delivered one All-Star campaign but failed to make an expected impact as he often struggled with injuries.

In the 20 games he played in 2020-21, Griffin averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.

The Detroit Pistons are heading towards a complete rebuild, which makes their star forward Blake Griffin an odd man out. This is why the two sides have recently started exploring options for Griffin’s future, including trade and contract buyout scenarios, according to the Pistons general manager Troy Weaver.

Speaking with ESPN on Monday, Weaver said that the franchise will prioritize finding a trade partner for Griffin. If that isn’t an option, the two sides might engage in buyout talks.

“We respect all the effort Blake has put forth in Detroit and his career and will work to achieve a positive outcome for all involved,” said Weaver.

While waiting for a resolution, Griffin will be out of the lineup, which means that he played his last game for the Pistons. The 31-year-old veteran has averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the 20 games he played this season.

“I am grateful to the Pistons for understanding what I want to accomplish in my career and for working together on the best path forward,” said Griffin in a statement.

Trading Griffin will be a tough task for the Pistons. He has been in decline in recent seasons, meaning that teams will be reluctant to take on his contract, which pays him $36.6 million in 2020-21 and $39 million in 2021-22.

The most likely scenario is that Griffin agrees to a contract buyout while leaving some money on the table. This would allow him to pick his new destination and join a contender.

Blake Griffin joined the Detroit Pistons as a five-time All-Star in 2018 in a blockbuster trade from the LA Clippers. Griffin was supposed to be the face of the franchise and the player who would bring the Pistons back to contention, but things didn’t exactly work out that way.

During his time in Detroit, Griffin often dealt with injuries that limited his production and time on the court. He did deliver an All-Star campaign in 2018-19, leading the Pistons to the playoffs and averaging a career-high 24.5 points per game.

It came down to the last day of the regular season, but the Detroit Pistons are heading to the playoffs.

If the Pistons won their season finale against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night, they were guaranteed to make the playoffs over the Charlotte Hornets.

With their win and a Charlotte loss, the Pistons will advance to face the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the first round.

It wasn’t going to come easy for the Pistons, despite playing against the NBA’s worst team. They had to travel to Madison Square Garden without injured superstar Blake Griffin. Griffin’s knee injury puts his status for the Pistons’ playoff series in question. Despite his absence, the Pistons dominated in a 115-89 win.

Bench shooting guard Luke Kennard led the Pistons with 27 points.

Andre Drummond, Detroit’s anchor in the paint, also put up a big game with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Detroit will advance to the playoffs as a massive underdog against Giannis Antentokounmpo and the powerhouse Milwaukee Bucks, but they know that anything could happen come playoff time.

They’ll travel to Milwaukee to open their series against the Bucks on Friday night. They’ll have their fingers crossed that Blake Griffin will be able to return and participate in the clash.
