The post Dolphins OC Chan Gailey to Leave Miami After Just One Year appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Gailey previously retired in 2017 after coaching with the New York Jets for two years but decided to return and take the Miami offensive coordinator job this year.
Gailey had a history with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was slated to be the Dolphins’ starting quarterback at the beginning of the season. Gailey coached Fitzpatrick when they were both members of the Buffalo Bills from 2010 to 2012.
A new offensive coordinator in 2021 will probably be the best thing for the Dolphins, since rookie Tua Tagovailoa, who Miami took with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 draft, did not look very effective in Gailey’s scheme, which was obviously designed with Fitzpatrick in mind.
Despite missing the playoffs, Miami finished the season with 10 wins and appears to be a team on the rise.
Finding the right offensive coordinator to tap into Tagovailoa’s potential and mold him into a true franchise quarterback will be the biggest priority this offseason for the Dolphins, along with putting together a good supporting cast for Tagovailoa on the offensive side of the ball.

]]>The young quarterback was taken out and benched by head coach Brian Flores in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins 20-13 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Tagovailoa was unable to get anything going on offense, which forced Flores to make a move and play veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in order to provide the team with a spark. Fitzpatrick was able to do so in his first series, leading a touchdown drive to make it a one-score game.
However, Fitzpatrick ended up throwing an interception in the end zone, which sealed the win for the Broncos.
Coach Flores confirmed that Tagovailoa was taken out of the game because of his performance, but added that the starting job is still his and that Tagovailoa will be the Dolphins starter next week against the winless New York Jets.
Fitzpatrick started the season as the team’s No. 1 quarterback, but was replaced by Tagovailoa four weeks ago, despite a two-game winning streak. Tagovailoa has shown promise, leading the team to three straight wins before Sunday’s loss.
The Dolphins are currently 6-4 and are trying to make a playoff appearance for the first time since 2016.
