Carson Wentz will not be the starting quarterback in the Washington Commanders’ final regular season game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. This decision is largely viewed as proof that Wentz’s career with the Commanders is at an end.

Backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke is set to start the game, while rookie Sam Howell is largely expected to appear as well. Wentz’s last appearance for the Commanders was against the Cleveland Browns, who defeated Washington 24-10 in a game where Wentz was only able to throw for 260 yards and was intercepted three times. This defeat also sealed the Commanders’ elimination from playoff competition this season.

Although Wentz still has two years left on his current Commander contract, he has no guaranteed money coming in for that period. As a result, the Commanders have the ability to cut him from the roster without any money being spent.

Wentz arrived in Washington last spring in a trade that saw two third-round picks as well as second-round picks being sent to the Indianapolis Colts. Weltz’s arrival sees Washington absorb a $28 million salary cap hit.

The Washington Commanders announced on Monday that their starting quarterback Carson Wentz underwent surgery on his throwing hand. According to the organization, Wentz suffered a fractured finger in a 7-12 win over the Chicago Bears.

The Commanders added that Wentz will begin his rehab “immediately” and is expected to make a full recovery. The team didn’t give a timeline for the 29-year-old player’s return to action, but reports indicate he will be sidelined for at least four weeks.

Wentz came to Washington during the offseason with the Commanders hoping he could elevate a talented offense that endured below-average quarterback play in 2021. However, that wasn’t the case throughout the first six weeks of the season, as Wentz continued to be inconsistent in the same way he was during his previous stops.

In his six starts, Wentz led the Commanders to a 2-4 record. He completed 62.1% of his pass attempts while throwing for 1,489 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has six picks.

Washington will most likely turn to last year’s starter Taylor Heinicke for the upcoming stretch of games. Heinicke went 7-8 in 15 starts last year and finished the campaign with 3,419 passing yards, 20 TDs, and 15 interceptions. The Commanders also have rookie signal-caller Sam Howell as an option for the QB position.

Just three years after leading the Philadelphia Eagles to the franchise’s first Super Bowl, head coach Doug Pederson has been fired.

According to sources close to the organization, Pederson had a meeting with Eagles brass in Florida where he was set to present his plan for fixing the team, which finished with a woeful 4-11-1 record this year.

Eagles owner and CEO Jeffrey Lurie announced after the meeting that he believes that it would in the best interest of both the Eagles and Pederson to part ways.

The relationship between Pederson and the Eagles front office has been a very rocky one as of late. Many believe that Pederson was not happy with the amount of influence the front office had on staffing decisions.

For example, one day after Pederson announced that Mike Groh would be coming back as offensive coordinator in January 2020, the Eagles fired Groh.

Pederson also planned to promote passing game coordinator Press Taylor to offensive coordinator, which might have been another move that didn’t sit well with the front office.

Another big reason for Pederson’s fractured relationship with management is the recent performance of quarterback Carson Wentz, who was supposed to be the Eagles franchise quarterback for many years to come after signing a huge contract extension.

After an absolutely dismal performance in 2020, Wentz still has $128 million left on his deal, meaning that it might be impossible to trade him.

The Eagles are most likely banking on the idea that Wentz could turn his career around with the help of the right head coach and a new offensive system in place.

It appears that the Philadelphia Eagles are no longer Carson Wentz’s team.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed on Tuesday that rookie Jalen Hurts will take over as the starting quarterback moving forward. This move demotes Wentz to a backup role.

The decision comes after Wentz was benched for Hurts in last week’s game against Green Bay Packers. The 27-year-old player completed only 40 percent of his passes while throwing for 79 yards before being pulled out.

Hurts outshined Wentz, sparking Philly’s offense and finishing the contest with 109 passing yards, 29 rushing yards, and a touchdown as well.

“We’re not where we want to be as an offense,” said Pederson about the decision. “I looked at the whole thing and decided that for this week to look for that spark again to try to get the team over the hump, to try to get everybody playing better.”

Carson Wentz has been in the midst of his worst season as a pro in 2020, being ranked at the bottom of most statistical categories among starting QBs. He has been completing a career-low 57.4 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,620 yards and 16 TDs. Wentz was particularly careless with the ball as well, throwing a career-high 15 interceptions.

The Eagles now hope that Hurts can lead them to a late surge and help them challenge for the top of the NFC East. Despite their 3-8-1 record, Philadelphia still has a shot of making the postseason due to a weak division.

The Philadelphia Eagles won their second game of the season, scoring 12 unanswered points to defeat the New York Giants 22-21.

The game was a good example of why the NFC East is currently the worst division in football, with only six total wins between its four teams. Neither team looked great, but the Giants, as has been the case with most of their tough losses this year, found a way to fumble an almost sure victory.

The Giants were up 21-10 with six minutes to play after quarterback Daniel Jones led a long, 97-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Sterlin Shepard, who came back to the team finally after missing several weeks to a turf toe injury.

But the Eagles didn’t give up, scoring a quick touchdown and then forcing the Giants to punt in order to get the ball back with two minutes left to play. That was enough for Philadelphia quarterback Carson Wentz, who led a 71-yard touchdown drive that put the Eagles up 22-21 with 40 seconds to go in the game.

The Eagles defense then sealed the victory with a Brandon Graham strip-sack of Jones to end the game.

Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz is off to a struggling start of the season, but it looks like this won’t jeopardize his job. Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson told the media on Monday that he has no intentions to bench Wentz and stays committed to him as the team’s starter.

Throughout the first three games of the 2020 season, Wentz completed just 59.8 percent of his passes while throwing only three touchdowns and appalling six interceptions. For comparison, the 27-year-old quarterback did not throw more than seven interceptions in each of his past three seasons.

Fueled by Wentz’s turnovers and inefficiency, the Eagles stumbled to a disappointing 0-2-1 start of the season. But this still isn’t enough for Pederson to send Wentz to the bench.

“No, you don’t go there,” said Pederson. “That’s a knee jerk reaction. That’s a reaction to the aura that’s out there. That’s not what we believe internally. We’re going to continue to get better. Carson’s our quarterback.”

While the Eagles have 2020’s second-round QB Jalen Hurts waiting behind Carson Wentz, it isn’t surprising that Pederson doesn’t want to make the switch. Philly signed Wentz to a four-year, $128 million contract extension in 2019 and are committed to him financially for the next four years, at least.

So, they need to give him all support they can and hope Wentz can overcome this rough patch. If he can’t, it’s safe to say that Philly is in the world of trouble.

Philadelphia Eagles played badly in their 37-10 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, and they know it. As a matter of fact, they are not only aware of their poor performance, but are also embarrassed by it.

Speaking after the game, Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz admitted that he and his teammates feel “frustrated” and “little embarrassed” by the tough loss.

“Frustrated, a little embarrassed, they beat the c**p out of us, we didn’t show up and we’ve got to be better but I’m confident in this group,” – said Wentz at the press conference.

Wentz finished the game by throwing for 191 yards and one touchdown, while he also had one interception. The 80.8 passer rating he posted against Cowboys was his second-worst in 2019.

“There’s things I can do better, I’ve got to have better pocket presence and help those guys out as well. At the end of the day we’ve got to all be better.” – he added.

Philly suffered their second consecutive defeat on Sunday while falling down to 3-4 record. Wentz, however, isn’t concerned about this and thinks the defeats will bring his team closer.

“I love the locker room, you never want to lose, but I think it’s going to pull us together. It’ll make us look in the mirror individually, but it’ll pull us together as a group,” – the 26-year-old signal-caller explained.

Philadelphia is having another tough matchup in Week 8 as they are scheduled to travel to Buffalo, where they will play the Bills. The Bills are currently 5-1.
