The Chicago Bulls are already turning focus on the next season after an early end of their 2023-24 campaign. According to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the franchise has offered a new contract to their All-Star forward, DeMar DeRozan.

DeRozan, who is set to become a free agent in the summer, was reportedly offered a new two-year, $80 million deal. The $40 million annually would represent a big raise for DeRozan, who earned $27.3 million in 2023-24.

It is unclear whether DeRozan would be interested in re-signing with the Bulls before he has the opportunity to test the free-agent market. Johnson adds that the player would prefer a long-term offer at the moment.

If DeRozan hits the free agency market, he is expected to have more than a few suitors, considering he just finished another productive campaign. He averaged 24.0 points to go with 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.

Retaining DeRozan is a priority for the Bulls this offseason. The veteran has been their best player since signing as a free agent in 2021, and losing him would significantly hurt their chances of being competitive in 2024-25.

Before joining the Bulls, DeMar DeRozan also played with the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs. He is a six-time All-Star and has two All-NBA Second Team selections to his name.

The Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine is set to be out of action for at least a week after he incurred a right ankle sprain, the team announced. Bulls coach Billy Donovan explained that he is unsure of how long it will take for the guard to recover.

“I don’t know what it’s going to end up being. It’s going to be how he responds,” Donovan explained. “certainly has swelling in his ankle. That’s pretty clear. Like I said, he’s dealt with this before. I don’t want to put a timeline on him.” He remains a doubt for the Bulls road games against the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, and Portland Trail Blazers.

LaVine was injured during the third quarter of the Bulls’ 110-116 win over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night. He checked himself out of the game immediately afterward. While he returned during the fourth quarter, LaVine checked out yet again after just two minutes of play.

The Chicago Bulls had some good news for their fans on Wednesday. Center Nikola Vucevic, who was one of the team’s strongest performers last season, inked a new deal that will keep him with the franchise through the 2025-26 NBA season.

The Bulls haven’t disclosed the financial terms of the deal, but sources close to the franchise say that the extension is worth $60 million.

Vucevic joined the Bulls in a trade from the Orlando Magic midway through the 2020–21 season. The two-time All-Star averaged 17.6 points and 11.0 rebounds on 52.0% shooting while playing all 82 games.

“Since I have arrived in Chicago, everyone in the organization has been incredibly welcoming to my family and me,” Vucevic said in a statement. “I am motivated more than ever to achieve our mutual goals as a team. “

Keeping Vucevic, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent, was considered a priority for the Bulls this offseason. He is an important part of their core, and they did pay a steep price for him, so losing him for nothing would likely sting a lot.

The Bulls will now shift their focus on finding a player to step in the starting point guard role after Lonzo Ball was ruled out for the entire 2023-24 campaign.

The Chicago Bulls are not overly optimistic that they will see their point guard Lonzo Ball on the basketball court again, according to a recent report. Ball tore his meniscus in January 2022 and has since had three surgeries in an attempt to address the issue.

After his latest surgery in March, the Bulls said they are optimistic about the procedure and Ball’s ability to resume his career. But according to Dan Bernstein of 670 The Score,  the organization “privately” believes the 25-year-old player will not be able to resume his career.

It is unclear when exactly Ball hurt his knee, but the Bulls made the official announcement on January 20, 2022, and put a six-to-eight-week timeline on his return. Then in April, the team ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Ball tried to return midway through the 2022-23 campaign but couldn’t participate in basketball activities without feeling discomfort. At that point, the player decided to have a cartilage transplant, his third procedure on the same knee.

Lonzo Ball joined the Chicago Bulls in a sign-and-trade from the New Orleans Pelicans in the summer of 2021. He received a four-year, $85 million contract as part of the deal. Ball ended up only playing 35 games with the Bulls, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid failed to extend his underrated winning streak against the Chicago Bulls. While Embiid put together another big performance with 37 points and 16 rebounds versus the Bulls on Monday night, it was still not enough for the 76ers to avoid a 109-105 double-overtime loss.

Embiid entered the game having never lost to the Bulls in his NBA career. He faced the famed franchise 12 times before and got a win each time. However, his supporting cast had an off-night, with fellow superstar James Harden shooting 2-14 and managing only five points. Embiid, who has now scored 30+ points in 10 straight games, fouled out in the second overtime.

The Bulls, on the other hand, were carried by their star trio of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic. They became the first trio of teammates in the 2022-23 season to have 20+ points and 3+ steals apiece, and the first trio to do it for Chicago since 1977-78.

The loss has ended the 76ers’ eight-game winning streak and prevented them from jumping over the Boston Celtics on the Eastern Conference standings. Philly remained the third seed, trailing the Celtics by half a game and the leading Milwaukee Bucks by three games.

The Bulls, on the other hand, solidified their spot in the Play-In tournament. They remain at No. 10 but now have two games in hand over the Washington Wizards at No. 11.

The Chicago Bulls will have to wait until next season to see their point guard Lonzo Ball back in action. The team officially announced that Ball had been ruled out for the remainder of 2022-23 campaign while recovering from a knee injury.

Ball underwent knee surgery in January 2022 to repair a meniscus tear and was initially expected to get back to action in five weeks. However, the recovery didn’t go as planned, forcing the 25-year-old player to miss the rest of 2021-22 and have another procedure in the summer.

While Ball attempted to return to basketball actions in recent weeks, he couldn’t do so without being pain-free. The Bulls ended up deciding to allow him more time to recover, hoping he could be ready for the start of the next season.

“Despite making significant increases in strength and function over the past several months, Bulls guard Lonzo Ball continues to experience performance-limiting discomfort during participation in high-level basketball-related activities,” said Bulls executive vice president Arturas Karnisovas in a statement shared with the media.

Lonzo Ball joined the Bulls in the summer of 2021 in a sign-and-trade deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. Ball played some of his best basketball as a pro in the first part of the 2021-22 season, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists before going down with an injury.

The Bulls are expected to add free agent guard Patrick Beverley in the upcoming days as a way to bolster their guard depth. They currently have 2019’s first-round pick Coby White and veteran Goran Dragic manning the position.

Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball is set to undergo an arthroscopic debridement of his left knee, the team announced. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday 28 September in Los Angeles. His knee will be evaluated once again four to six weeks after the surgery is complete.

This is the third time the 24-year-old will undergo surgery on his left knee. He first had an operation in July 2018 while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and again in January this year. While the recovery time was meant to be between six to eight weeks, he was unable to return to action as the pain in his knee flared up each time he ramped up his physical activity. His last game was on January 14.

Ball has continued to experience pain during the summer, thereby leaving him sidelined throughout training camp. The debridement procedure is aimed at removing damaged tissue from the knee.

So far, Ball will be sidelined until at least late October, when his next medical evaluation is scheduled. The Bulls warned, however, that this evaluation is no guarantee that he will be able to return to the court at that time.

Veteran point guard Goran Dragic will play for the Chicago Bulls next season. The 2014’s NBA Most Improved Player inked a one-year deal, according to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Reportedly, Dragic, who split the past campaign between the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets, will earn $2.9 million in 2022-23.

After spending more than six years with the Miami Heat and making an All-Star team in 2018, Dragic was traded to the Toronto Raptors in a deal that saw Kyle Lowry head in the opposite way. The 36-year-old player played just five games in Toronto before agreeing to a contract buyout with the franchise.

Dragic saw a lot of interest when he hit the free-agent market but decided to join the Nets in an attempt to win a championship. Brooklyn would go on to have an early playoff exit, but the veteran Slovenian did manage to put together a solid stretch. He averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists during the postseason.

The Bulls were on the market for a reliable veteran addition in the backcourt this offseason, and getting Goran Dragic in the building for the reported price has to be their best-case scenario. Despite approaching the back end of his career, Dragic should provide value for Chicago while serving as a veteran leader in the locker room. His NBA career averages include 13.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.

After five years with the Chicago Bulls, Zach LaVine is getting ready to spend another five in the Windy City. He signed a five-year max extension with his current team, reportedly worth a mind-blowing $215.2 million.

Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul shared the news with The Athletic’s Shams Charania, revealing that LaVine’s new contract includes a player option in the fifth year. He left the Minnesota Timberwolves to join the Bulls in 2017, for a reported sum of $78 million over four years.

LaVine made his very first playoff appearance with the Bulls this season, averaging 24.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 67 games for the team. He was also named an NBA All-Star in 2021 and 2022, but the last season was pretty rocky for LaVine due to thumb and left knee injuries.

Earlier this year, LaVine said he’s looking forward to becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer because it’s going to be unlike anything he’s experienced before.

“Free agency is gonna be a big milestone for me. It’s my first time going into it really being [an] unrestricted free agent. I dealt with it being restricted before so it’s a whole new experience,” LaVine told Yahoo Sports back in February.

The Chicago Bulls continued their strong start of the 2021-22 season with a dominant outing in a 121-103 win on Monday night against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Bulls were led by veteran forward DeMar DeRozan, who scored season-high 38 points to take down his hometown team.

DeRozan’s scoring performance came with high efficiency, as he went 15 out of his 23 attempts from the floor while being perfect at the free-throw line. He also added six assists and three rebounds in his 35 minutes on the floor.

DeRozan arrived to the Bulls during the offseason in a sign-and-trade deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Many people didn’t like the move at the time, considering his three-year, $85 million contract to be an overpay and doubting he is a good fit for Chicago. But this only made the 32-year-old more motivated to prove his doubters wrong.

“I can go down the list of just being counted out, being looked over,” DeRozan said after the Lakers game via ESPN. “So many chips that’s on my shoulder that I carry. And just wanting to be a winner and wanting to enjoy this ride. We can’t play this game forever, so I want to get as much as I can out of it.”

DeRozan is currently averaging 26.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 51.0 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from the three-point line. His stellar performances have Chicago performing above all expectations and sitting at number two in the Eastern Conference with a 10-4 record.
