Expect to see Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez in an LA Galaxy jersey next season as well. Chicharito confirmed his stay in MLS during a recent chat with reporters, saying that his contract automatically renewed for 2023 after he met a clause for goals and minutes.

“I have a clause,” Chicharito revealed. “And when I reach 11 goals and 60 percent of the minutes, it automatically renews.”

Chicharito easily cleared the necessary marks in 2022. He appeared in 30 matches out of the 32 that the Galaxy played this season while scoring 17 goals. The 34-year-old also added two assists to help Galaxy remain in the MLS Cup playoffs picture in Western Conference.

Javier Chicharito Hernandez joined the LA Galaxy in 2020 on a three-year deal. He was a significant capture for the team, being the all-time leading scorer for Mexico’s national team, and was expected to help the Galaxy re-establish itself as an MLS powerhouse.

Chicharito’s first season in the United States was disappointing, as injuries limited him to only 12 games and two goals. However, his second season with Galaxy proved to be much better as he scored 17 goals in only 21 games. He continued his fine form this season as well and was recently rewarded with an All-Star nod.

LA Galaxy’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez won’t get a chance to add to his goal tally at MLS is Back Tournament. According to LA Galaxy’s head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Hernandez is dealing with a calf strain that will rule him out for the remainder of the competition.

Hernandez suffered the muscle during training last week and was forced to miss the 6-2 loss to LAFC on Saturday. The injury appears to be more serious, as Schelotto revealed during the post-game conference that Hernandez will also miss the next week’s game against Houston Dynamo.

“He will not be ready for the next game. He [injured] the muscle, so he will be out around three weeks,” said Schelotto. “And he won’t play for us next game.”

Hernandez scored a goal in Galaxy’s opening game of MLS is Back Tournament against Portland Timbers while also missing a penalty kick. It was his first goal for the team since he came to MLS in January.

LA Galaxy shouldn’t miss Chicharito all that much, considering they are dead last in Group F with two losses and zero points. They could theoretically still make the knockout stage, but they would need a huge win against Dynamo and other results to go their way.

LA Galaxy has come out as a winner in Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez sweepstakes. The Mexican star, who was the target for several MLS teams, confirmed he’s joining Galaxy in a recent interview with LA Times.

Even though Galaxy hasn’t made the move official, Hernandez gave an interview to Times in which he announced the move, calling it: “the right time, the right opportunity.”

“I’m going to be playing,” said Chicharito. “That’s what I want in my life. People are going to say it was because I couldn’t make it [in Europe], but sometimes in football, there are things that are not in your hands.”

According to the 31-year-old, the key factor in his decision was the fact that Galaxy has confidence in him.

“The last two years, the managers decided on giving confidence to other players rather than me,” he added. “And now, the LA Galaxy, the manager of the club and the league, are telling me: ‘Look, Javier, we want to give you all the trust, all the confidence to help us,’ and that’s why I’m taking this opportunity.”

Sports Illustrated previously reported the terms of the deal between Galaxy and Hernandez’s former club Sevilla. The MLS side agreed to pay a transfer fee of $9.4 million while agreeing to a three-year contract with the player. Chicharito will fill the team’s Designated Player spot and is expected to earn $6 million annually. His compensation might increase if certain incentives are met.

After playing with several European clubs, Hernandez joined La Liga side Sevilla in September 2019. However, he failed to carve a more important role in the team, making only nine appearances and scoring once.

Mexican striker Javier Chicharito Hernandez has been linked with a transfer to the Major League Soccer for some time now, and it looks like this move might not be a long shot after all. Speaking with LA Times, Chicharito admitted that he is “definitely” considering a move to MLS in the future.

“Yes, definitely,” Hernandez admitted when asked whether MLS is an option for him. “Look, I am always thinking about my future. I want to be as open as I can to any opportunity.

Hernandez also thinks that MLS is growing in reputation and that the move to the U.S. provides an opportunity for him. “MLS is a league that is improving. It is an opportunity. Every league is an opportunity,” the 31-year-old added.

Reportedly, Chicharito Hernandez was a target for several MLS teams in the past, but the player didn’t want to move away from Europe. His mind might change in the future as his career nears to an end, but any team that wants to bring him would reportedly have to offer him a lucrative contract.

Hernandez played for a number of reputable European clubs, including Manchester United and Real Madrid. In September, he decided to join La Liga side Sevilla on a three-year deal. In 10 games he played for his new club this season, Chicharito scored three goals.
