Veteran reliever Chris Martin showed enough during his short time with Atlanta Braves to get a new deal. Brave announced on Tuesday that they have signed Martin to a two-year deal, which is worth $7 million annually and $14 million in total.

Martin joined Atlanta on the trade deadline from Texas Rangers and it proved to be a good decision for both parties. The 33-year-old ended up playing 20 games with the Braves, posting 1-1 record with 4.08 ERA and 22 strikeouts. He also pitched an immaculate inning on September 11 in a game against Philadelphia Phillies.

Unfortunately, Martin couldn’t help Braves in the playoffs as he suffered oblique muscle injury in Game 1 of the National League Division Series and was ruled out for the postseason.

Chris Martin spent the early part of his MLB career with Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees, before departing to Japan to play for Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in 2016. After two successful seasons in Japan, in which he had 1.12 ERA and 91 strikeouts, Martin returned to MLB ahead of 2018 season and signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Rangers.

Martin’s MLB career stats include 2–10 record, 4.51 ERA and 134 strikeouts.
