The Golden State Warriors are reportedly looking to make a significant roster shakeup in an attempt to turn around their disappointing 2023-24 campaign. According to a recent report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Warriors are open to trading forward Andrew Wiggins and veteran point guard Chris Paul.

During his recent appearance on Run It Back, Charania said that the Warriors are looking into ways to improve their roster and will “take calls” on Wiggins and Paul. Several other players might be available for the right price, even franchise legend Klay Thompson.

Paul seems to be the prime candidate to be traded out of the trio. The 38-year-old hasn’t been nearly as efficient as the Warriors hoped he would be when they acquired him in a trade that saw Jordan Poole join the Washington Wizards. He is averaging a career-low 8.9 points to go with 3.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists.

The reason why teams might be interested in Paul is his large expiring contract. He is earning $30 million this season and has a team option for 2024-25. Any team acquiring Paul would likely do so in a bid to clear out the cap space.

Wiggins, on the other hand, is also having a down year, averaging just 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 31.0% from behind the three-point line. Still, he is less than two years removed from his All-Star appearance, and teams might believe he can rediscover his form in a different environment.

The Warriors are currently sitting at No. 12 in the Western Conference with a 19-24 record. They are 3.5 games behind the Utah Jazz, which holds the last play-in spot.

The Los Angeles Lakers emerged as a potential destination for veteran point guard Chris Paul. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Lakers have a “strong” interest in Paul if the Phoenix Suns waive the 12-time All-Star.

The Suns already informed Paul that they intend to either trade him or waive him this offseason. If they can’t find a trade partner, the team is considering multiple scenarios.

One is to waive Paul and stretch the remaining $15 million guaranteed on his contract over several years, which would make the 38-year-old a free agent. The second option is to waive him and re-sign him to a smaller contract.

The Lakers would like to get Paul if he ends up being waived in the first scenario. The move would reunite him with his good friend LeBron James and give the Lakers a true point guard and a proven playmaker. However, it is unlikely that the LA team would go beyond handing Paul more than a veterans’ minimum.

Chris Paul is coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro. He finished the 2022-23 campaign averaging a career-low 13.9 points per game while adding 4.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists. Paul also struggled to stay healthy, especially in the postseason, where he only played seven games as the Suns were bounced in the second round by the eventual champions Denver Nuggets.

Chris Paul’s night came to an early end when he left the court during the Phoenix Suns’ 100-88 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night with right heel soreness.

The Suns’ star began to experience pain during the second period of the game, immediately grabbing at his heel before jogging to the end of the court. When a foul was called a few seconds later, Paul was subbed out and remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the game.

“If I could have played, I would’ve,” Paul said of his injury following the defeat. He added that despite the pain, he does not believe that he has sustained a long-term injury and that he mostly left the game as a precaution.

Following Monday night’s defeat, Suns coach Monty Williams stated that there was no update on Paul’s injury. He further commented that “He just had like a misstep over in the corner, and I looked up and he was limping a little bit.”

Joining Paul on the sidelines was starting power forward Cameron Johnson, who has been ruled out indefinitely with a torn meniscus in his right knee during Friday’s 102-82 win against the Portland Trail Blazers. Other options that the Suns have in this position include Torrey Craig, Damion Lee, and Dario Saric.

The Dallas Mavericks beat the Phoenix Suns 111-101 on Sunday night to even the Western Conference semi-finals series between the two teams. The Mavs had a balanced contribution from their entire rotation and benefited from foul trouble the Suns’ star guard Chris Paul got into early in the game.

Paul picked up two fouls in the first quarter before getting called for two more before the end of the first half. His fourth foul came with one second remaining in the second period after bumping Mavs’ star Luka Doncic while trying to pick up his own miss.

Just over two minutes in the second half, Paul got his fifth foul and swiftly exited the game. He didn’t return until early in the final period but didn’t stick around for too long. The 37-year-old player made a loose ball foul with 8:58 left on the clock and had to head to the locker room.

The Suns struggled with scoring efficiency and defensive stops without Paul on the floor. Devin Booker had 35 points, but only three other Phoenix players managed to double digits and no one else had more than 15.

Dallas didn’t rely solely on Doncic, who had 26 points with seven rebounds and 11 assists, like in some previous games. Instead, five more players stepped up to score 10 or more points, including Dorian Finney-Smith, who had 24 points and eight boards.

The Mavs vs. the Suns series continues on Tuesday with Game 5 in Phoenix.

The high-flying Phoenix Suns will have to wrap up the regular season without their All-Star point guard Chris Paul on the team. According to multiple reports, Paul is dealing with a thumb injury and is expected to miss significant time while rehabbing.

Paul suffered the injury during last week’s 124-121 win over the Houston Rockets. He underwent an MRI test shortly after, which revealed a thumb fracture. The 36-year-old will reportedly be sidelined between six weeks and eight weeks.

While the Suns didn’t confirm the news about Paul’s injury publicly, the team’s head coach Monty Williams acknowledged he wouldn’t be able to count on one of his best players moving forward.

“You hate it, but you’re prepared for it. This is different because it’s Chris,” Williams told reporters on Sunday. “But with that in mind, it’s also an opportunity to strengthen our team and give other guys confidence in certain areas, and when he does come back, I think we’ll be that much better.”

Even without Paul on the floor, Phoenix should be able to hold onto their sizeable lead in the Western Conference. The Suns are currently sitting at the top of the standings with a 48-10 record and find themselves 6.5 games ahead of the Golden State Warriors at No. 2.

The more significant concern for the Suns is whether Paul can get on the floor in time for the playoffs and will he be 100 percent when that happens. The Suns might face some dangerous opponents in the first round, including the Los Angeles Lakers, and not having Paul at a high level to orchestrate their offense could potentially be disastrous for their championship hopes.

Paul struggled as a scorer in 2021-22, averaging career-low 14.9 points in 58 games he played this season. However, his contributions on defense have been stellar as always while he’s also leading the league with 10.7 assists per game.

Phoenix Suns veteran guard Chris Paul added another major achievement to his storied career during a 112-110 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. Paul ended the game with 18 assists, which brought his career total to 10,346 and allowed him to sit at the number three spot on the NBA all-time career assists list.

Paul entered the contest needing eight assists to overtake the Suns’ legend Steve Nash and enter the top three. The 36-year-old got to work early on and was already tied with Nash in the first eight minutes of the opening period. However, it wasn’t until 1:34 left in the second quarter that he managed to break the tie by setting up a three-pointer for Jae Crowder.

“I’m grateful, and I thank God for this opportunity,” Paul said of the achievement. “I say it all the time, not only to be on a team and still be in the league but to still be playing. You don’t take that for granted.”

Paul, who inked a four-year, $120 million extension with the Suns in the offseason, started the 2021-22 NBA campaign slower than usual in terms of scoring and is currently averaging career-low 13.0 points per game. But other parts of his game haven’t skipped a beat. He is currently dishing 11.8 assists per game and making a career-best 41.7 percent of his three-point attempts while also adding 2.0 steals and 4.3 boards per game.

The Phoenix Suns are heading to the Western Conference Finals after beating the Denver Nuggets in a decisive Game 4 on Sunday night. The 125-118 win gave the Suns a sweep in the series against the Nuggets while also extending their playoff win streak to seven games.

The Suns were carried by All-Star duo Chris Paul and Devin Booker, who had another postseason outing. Paul scored 37 points and dished seven assists, while Booker had 34 points and 11 boards.

Nuggets made a late fourth-quarter push but couldn’t go all the way without their best player Nikola Jokic on the court. Jokic, who recently received the NBA MVP award, was ejected late in the third quarter for a flagrant foul on Cameron Payne.

Jokic made a hard swipe to get the ball out of Payne’s hands but also ended up hitting the Suns guard in the face. After the review, referees called a Flagrant 2 on the Serbian and sent him to the locker room.

Despite ending the game early, Jokic still managed to contribute with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Will Barton had 25 points, and Michael Porter Jr. scored 20 for Denver as well.

This was a bitter end of the postseason for the Nuggets but also an expected one. They entered the playoffs without one of their best players in Jamal Murray and knew they would have a tough time getting all the way without him.

“I’m not going to allow this series to define the season,” said Denver’s head coach Michael Malone. “Hopefully next year we can find a way to stay healthy and be better and see where we can go.”

Phoenix, on the other hand, now waits for the conclusion of the Utah Jazz vs. LA Clippers series to find out their opponent in the Western Conference Finals. This will be the first trip to conference finals for the Suns since the 2009-10 season, which was also the last time the team has made the playoffs.

“It’s a feeling that’s kind of hard to put (into) words,” said Booker. “After a game like this, or after you close a series out, you sit back and reflect a little bit and think about what we’ve been through as an organization and as a team.”

Chris Paul isn’t one to back down from a challenge. A perennial All-Star throughout his years in the league, he’s been shockingly consistent throughout his stints with every team he’s been on.

Although Paul has never won a title, he’s transformed all of his teams into playoff contenders, from the New Orleans Hornets (when they were called that), to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Houston Rockets, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. After joining the Phoenix Suns over the offseason, most people expected him to turn the Phoenix Suns around as well.

That’s exactly what he started to do, and the Suns actually did pretty well during the beginning of the season. But as they got closer to the 20-game mark, it was clear that there were some issues that needed addressing. After blowing a 15-lead against the Thunder earlier this week, only to lose 97-102, Paul had this to say after the game:

“We’re not playing well enough right now,” Paul told reporters. “I’m not going to say we’re not good enough, but we’re not playing well enough right now.”

Knowing Paul, he’s not saying this to be petty or spiteful. On the contrary, his goal has always been to elevate his teammates and make them better. We wouldn’t be surprised if they turn a corner for the better because of this.

In what is the first major trade of the 2020 NBA offseason, the Phoenix Suns have secured the services of point guard Chris Paul, previously of the Oklahoma City Thunder. This comes after Paul enjoyed a career comeback last season, making it back into the All-Star team for the first time in four years.

Paul was essential to the Thunder being awarded fifth-seeded in the Western Conference last season. He averaged 17.6 points, 6.7 assists, and five rebounds in 31.5 minutes per game. At 35 years of age, Paul is expected to provide much guidance to up and coming stars such as Devin Booker.

Paul is not the only target who found his way into the Suns’ crosshairs this offseason. Th team also made a largescale trade for Paul and Abdel Nader, luring them in from OKC in exchange for Jalen Lecque, Kelly Oubre Jr., Ricky Rubio, and Ty Jerome as well as their 2022 first-round pick.

The Suns have placed a large emphasis on reeling in new talents this season to bolster their squad in an effort to improve on their previous season’s finish. In 2019-20, the Arizona-based side narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, which would have marked their first appearance since making the conference finals in 2010.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have decided to promote former assistant coach Mark Daigneault to fill the team’s head coaching vacancy.

The Oklahoma City job was the last remaining head coaching vacancy with just several weeks left before training camp officially begins in December.

The Thunder chose not to renew the contract of coach Billy Donovan after this season despite Donovan taking the team to the playoffs in 10 of his 11 seasons coaching the team.

Daigneault doesn’t have a lot of time to get acclimated with a team that might not even look the same in a couple of weeks. There have been reports recently that the Thunder might be trading their star guard Chris Paul to the Phoenix Suns.

Daigneault has been with the Oklahoma City organization since 2014. After coaching in college at the University of Florida, Daigneault was hired to coach the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s G League affiliate team. Daigneault became a full-time NBA assistant coach last season under Donovan.

The team ended last season with a Game 7 loss to the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs after posting a 44-28 record in the shortened regular season.
