Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly inches away from keeping All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich with the organization for years to come. According to ESPN, Brewers and Yelich are close to agreeing to a $215 million extension.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that Yelich’s new contract with the Brewers would run from 2020 to 2028 and will include a mutual option for one more year. According to the terms of the deal, the 28-year-old will net 12.5 million this upcoming season and $14 million in 2021, after which an extension worth $190 million over the course of seven years will start.

Yelich played 130 games in 2019, having to end his season in September due to fractured kneecap. He finished the year hitting .329 with 44 home runs and 97 RBIs.

Christian Yelich joined Milwaukee Brewers ahead of the 2018 MLB season from Miami Marlins. He had a breakthrough season in his first year with Brewers, hitting .326 with 36 homers, and 110 RBIs en route to his first All-Star selection and batting title. Yelich capped off the year with NL MVP honors, being just one vote short of unanimous selection.

Yelich was an All-Star and won the batting title in 2019 as well while earning his first All-MLB First Team honors.

Ten days after wearing a Santa Monica Fire Department in support of the firefighters battling the ongoing wildfires in California, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers has pledged $1 million toward relief efforts for people affected by the fires.

The quarterback issued a statement before making the pledge, urging people to raise money for the affected.

“In Northern California, where I was born and raised, the city of Paradise burned to the ground, and many of the residents who go out are now displaced to my hometown of Chico and across the north state, Rodgers said in a video posted on twitter. “I personally reached out to my friends and the mayor of Chico to find out how to be of the most help. And raising money for both immediate needs and the long-term recovery is what is needed most right now.”

Packers Pledge $250K

Rodgers also confirmed the Packers will donate $250,000 toward the relief efforts while State Farm, a company affiliated to the quarterback, will donate $1 for every retweet.

Outside of football, MLB National League MVP Christian Yelich and teammates Mike Attanasio and Mike Moustakas started a campaign on Wednesday to help those affected. Dubbed “California Strong,” the campaign has raised a least $50,000 thanks to two-$25,000 donations by Yelich and teammate Ryan Braun.

This year’s MLB honors came to a close on Thursday night with the MVP awards being awarded to Red Sox’s Mookie Betts in the American League Milwaukee Brewers’ Christian Yelich in the National League.

Although Yelich won the NL honors with 29 out of 30 votes, it was Betts who had the better night. The 26-year-old became only the second player in MLB’s history to win the MVP, Silver Slugger, World Series and a Golden Glove in the same season.

The other player was Mike Schmidt in 1980 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Betts also won 28 votes to clinch the honors while teammate Mike Trout got the remaining two votes.

In a high-flying Boston Red Sox this season, Betts has been phenomenal. He hit five triples, 32 homers, 129 runs, 80 RBI, 10.9 WAR, 30 steals and had 186 OPS+. He was the best player in his team and in the AL, leading the league in average, runs scores, defensive runs and slugging.

In Milwaukee, the Brewers were in celebration mood after the player they acquired just in January was voted the National League’s MVP almost unanimously. Yelich has nearly been as good as Betts in Phillie, battling .326 and only two RBIS and two home runs short of becoming the NL’s first Triple Crown winner since 1937.
