]]>MLS Soccer’s Tom Bogert reports that the deal could end up being worth around $1.5 million in General Allocation Money (GAM). The Rapids will get $1.1 million right away, while the remaining 400K are based on incentives. The Colorado club will also get a percentage if LAFC decides to sell Acosta at some point.
Acosta is coming off a solid year in which he helped the Rapids finish at the top of the Western Conference. While he only managed one goal and two assists, he provided crucial in other departments and provided the team with a safety blanket thanks to its versatility. The 26-year-old was also irreplaceable for the United States Men’s National Team, making 21 appearances in 2021.
Reportedly, Colorado Rapids were not keen on letting Kellyn Acosta go but felt this was the best business decision after the two sides failed to reach an extension agreement despite lengthy talks. Acosta’s current deal includes club options for 2022 and 2023, and he is set to become a free agent in the January of 2024.
The ball is now in LAFC’s court, and the Los Angeles team will probably look to protect their investment and tie Acosta on a long-term deal sooner than later..

]]>Bogert reports that the Rapids and Benfica had a deal in place that would see the MLS side breaking its previous transfer record. However, Bassett wanted to play out the 2021 season in Colorado with hopes of making a run for the MLS Cup trophy with his boyhood club.
Bassett later confirmed the news in a chat with reporters, describing the decision as “very tough”.
“I mean it’s a Champions League club there. They got a rich history. You watch those teams when you’re growing up (and) you see all the players that have come out of there,” said Bassett.
Bassett has been playing well for the Rapids in 2021, playing 20 games in which he scored three goals and added two assists. His performances helped Colorado to emerge as a contender in the Western Conference, where they currently hold the No. 3 spot with an 11-5-4 record.
Reportedly, Cole Bassett will revisit the idea of playing in Europe when the transfer window reopens in January. He is expected to have a significant market once again, with Anderlecht and Vitesse being expected to join the race for his signature.

]]>The post Colorado Rapids’ Midfielder Johan Blomberg Returns to Native Sweden appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Blomberg’s departure doesn’t come as a surprise, considering he only played three games for the team in 2019. His last appearance came in early June, after which he fell out of the rotation completely.
“We would like to thank Johan for his service to the Rapids over the last two seasons. We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his career in Sweden” – said Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a statement.
Johan Blomberg signed a deal with Rapids in 2018, coming to the United States after his contract with AIK expired. He saw plenty of action in his first year, being featured in 24 games in MLS. However, following Anthony Hudson’s departure as the team’s head coach, Blomberg lost his place in the team and never managed to reclaim it.
Blomberg spent almost his entire professional career in native Sweden, where he played Lunds BK, Ängelholms FF, Halmstads BK, and AIK.
