UFC president Dana White isn’t ruling out the return of former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor to the promotion. However, McGregor will have to become fully healthy in order to do so.

McGregor had his last fight in July at UFC 264, losing via TKO to Dustin Poirier in the first round. The 33-year-old fighter broke his leg in the process and now “needs to heal up” before stepping in the octagon again, according to White.

“It’s basically going to be all about when can he start kicking again and, more importantly, when can he start taking kicks again. That will determine when he fights again,” said White during a recent appearance on The Jim Rome Show.

McGregor, on the other hand, said earlier this month that he “could kick” again while sharing an update about his health. Despite this, the Irish fighter doesn’t seem keen on fast-tracking his return, revealing that he doesn’t “want to get too ahead of himself.”

Conor McGregor has been in and out of the UFC in recent years, even retiring from MMA a couple of times before going backing out on his decision. His last UFC win came against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020, after which he took a one-year break. McGregor lost twice after that, with both defeats coming in 2021 against Poirier.

The fact that Conor McGregor insists he’s retired from MMA isn’t stopping UFC from trying to lure him back into the octagon. Their latest attempt: a fight against Dustin Poirier.

UFC’s president Dana White told Barstool Sports earlier this week that the promotion sent physical contracts to both McGregor and Poirier, hoping to get the fight done for early next year.

“We offered Dustin and Conor a fight, so we’re waiting to hear back from them both,” said White.

Poirier was quick to accept the challenge, writing on social media, “I accept.”

McGregor, on the other hand, did not publicly acknowledge the offer but did offer Poirier to take part in a charity exhibition match in Ireland.

The UFC’s offer comes after Dana White confirmed that the organization is working on “some fun stuff” with Conor McGregor. The Irish fighter later confirmed this via his management, but neither side offered additional details.

If McGregor changes his mind about Dustin Poirier fight, this would be their second professional bout. They first met in 2014 at UFC 178, with McGregor winning via TKO.

While former UFC champion Conor McGregor keeps insisting that he is retired from mixed martial arts, it looks like he is still not ready to completely cut the ties with the organization that made him one of the most popular fighters in the history of the sport.

While recently speaking with SportsCenter, UFC president Dana White said that McGregor is set for a comeback in 2021.

“We’re actually working on some fun stuff for Conor at the beginning of next year,” said White.

White couldn’t confirm that McGregor will fight, but promised his involvement with UFC in some manner.

“He should be back next year,” he added. “I’m not saying he’s coming back to fight, guaranteed, but we’re talking right now about some stuff.”

When approached about White’s comments, McGregor’s agent Audie Attar confirmed that his client had “some very interesting talks with the UFC recently.”

“We are excited about the future and working on some fun things. Exciting things to come in the near future,” Attar revealed.

Conor McGregor decided to retire from mixed martial arts back in June, saying at the time that the sport isn’t exciting to him anymore. However, the news was met with skepticism as McGregor retired and then staged a comeback several times before.

McGregor, who has a 22-4 career record, had his last fight in January when he defeated Donald Cerrone with TKO at UFC 246.

Mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor is done with fighting. McGregor went on social media over the weekend, and announced that he “decided to retire.”

McGregor had his last fight at UFC 246 in January, when he defeated Donald Cerrone via TKO. In recent months, he was mentioned in several fight scenarios including the bout against former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But, as it appears, McGregor isn’t interested in walking into the octagon again.

McGregor confirmed his decision in a chat with ESPN on Sunday, saying that one of the reasons he decided to walk is the lack of excitement.

“The game just does not excite me, and that’s that,” said McGregor. “All this waiting around. There’s nothing happening. I’m going through opponent options, and there’s nothing really there at the minute. There’s nothing that’s exciting me.”

Conor McGregor walks away from fighting with a 22-4 mixed martial arts record. He is a former UFC Featherweight Championship and UFC Lightweight Champion and was the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.

It is important to note that this isn’t McGregor’s first retirement. He initially “retired” in March 2016, only to return to fight in UFC several months later. He also had a similar announcement in April 2019 during negotiations about his comeback to UFC.

Conor McGregor, known for his enigmatic social media personality, announced his retirement in a tweet on Monday.

No one is sure what to make of McGregor, who is only 30 years old, and his announcement.

The superstar MMA fighter has been known to use social media for the promotion of his fights in the past. He also announced his “retirement” on Twitter before re-joining the UFC back in 2016.

His announcement came shortly after stating on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he wanted to return to fight in the Octagon.

McGregor last fought on October 6, 2018. He lost to Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas in a bout for the UFC Lightweight Title.

The Irish fighter is one of the most well-known and decorated fighters in the history of the sport. He owns a 21-4 career record in the Octagon. The southpaw was named the MMA fighter of the year in 2015 and 2016, and also once held the UFC Lightweight and Featherweight titles.

It wouldn’t be a complete surprise if this were McGregor’s official retirement. He also currently is a businessman, selling his Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey in stores throughout the world. His net worth is estimated at over $100 million.

Fans will probably just have to wait and see if McGregor is truly calling it quits.

Conor McGregor is finally getting back to UFC after almost two years. UFC president Dana White announced at a news conference on Friday that McGregor will fight current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for a title at UFC 229. The event is scheduled to take place on October 6th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor- Nurmagomedov matchup is projected to be the biggest fight in UFC history and could haul in two million in pay-per-view sales, which would be a record for MMA.

Conor McGregor’s last fight in UFC came on November 12, 2016, when he became the lightweight by beating knocking out Eddie Alvarez. McGregor already held the featherweight title before that fight, which meant he became the first UFC fighter to hold championships in two different weight classes at the same time. After fighting Alvarez, McGregor decided to try boxing and had a fight against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017. That was his last fight of any kind.

Due to Conor McGregor’s inactivity, UFC stripped him of his title which was won by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a title match against Al Iaquinta.

Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated, with a 26-0 record. He won eight matches by knockout, eight by submission and 10 by judicial decision.
