Detroit Lions have continued their busy offseason with a surprising move. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lions traded Pro Bowl corner Darius Slay to Philadelphia Eagles.

Schefter reports that Eagles parted ways with third-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2020 to get their man. As part of the trade, Slay also received a new deal from Philly, inking a three-year, $50 million extension. This makes the 29-year-old the highest-paid corner in the league at the moment.

It didn’t help that Detroit decided to trade away Qaundre Diggs, one of the locker room leaders, in the meantime.

Despite all of this, Slay had another productive season in 2019, making his third Pro Bowl appearance. He finished the year with 43 tackles, 17 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one touchdown.

Slay hoped that Lions will change their mind in 2020 and give him a new contract this offseason, but the organization showed very little intention to do so. In the end, Detroit opted to get some assets in return while Slay’s value was still high, while the player what he wanted as well as an opportunity for a fresh start.
