The Utah Jazz have the best record in the NBA at 26-6. They’ve dominated their opponents on both sides of the floor, and they appear to look like a legitimate contender. But how serious should we really be taking them?

After all, the Jazz have been the blog-boy team to follow for the last few years. They’ve been hovering in the top echelon of Western Conference favorites for a while, and yet they’ve never managed to make it count in the playoffs. As good as they are in the regular season, skeptics of their potential continue to point to their inability to come through when it really matters.

To their credit, they’ve got an incredible squad. Donovan Mitchell is one of the quickest and most explosive guards in the league, and he’s been averaging 24.5 points a game. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s incredibly fun to watch. On the defensive end, two-time defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert holds down the fort like it’s nobody’s business.

So should other teams be worried? The short answer is yes. If opposing playoff teams don’t take Utah seriously, they may find themselves truly surprised. However, we also believe that when playoff time comes around, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers simply have more experience and star power. Therefore, we don’t believe the Jazz will actually defeat them when it counts in a seven-game series.

NBA franchise Utah Jazz, as well as the Vivint Smart Home Arena, is set to be sold to Qualtrics founder Ryan Smith for a hefty price tag of $1.66 billion, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

This sale will mark the end of a three-decade ownership of the team by the Miller family, who bought the franchise 35 years ago. Jazz enjoyed a strong run under the Millers, winning nine division titles, two Western Conference championships, and achieving 16 50-win seasons.

According to Smith, the entrepreneur approached the Miller family on several occasions to express his interest in acquiring the team. “I grew up watching the Jazz. This is the team I cheered for. I played Junior Jazz. I dreamed of playing for the Jazz, and that didn’t work out,” Smith revealed.

In 2017, Gail Miller decided to put the Utah Jazz franchise into a legacy trust with the goal of keeping the team in Utah for the long term. According to the long-term owner, the sale of the team to Miller will achieve the exact same outcome.

Smith is set to acquire a team in relatively strong standing going into the new season. With players such as Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Jass roster is expected to find themselves in the top half of NBA teams and secure a playoff spot.

After his brilliant performance in a heartbreaking loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of this year’s NBA playoffs, there is no doubt that Donovan Mitchell is the face of the Utah Jazz franchise.

It should then come as no surprise that the Jazz are expected to lock “Spida” up for a long time as soon as possible.

According to reports, Mitchell and the Jazz are expected to sign a five-year max extension as soon as free agency starts in the fall.

Early projections show that a five-year max deal this offseason will be worth somewhere in the ballpark of $170 million. Free agency this year will be pushed back a bit because of the financial uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and is expected to start sometime after the scheduled October 18 date.

Mitchell has averaged 22.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4 assists per game in 225 games. He was selected 13th overall in the 2017 draft, ironically, by the Denver Nuggets, who traded him to Utah in exchange for Trey Lyles and the No. 24 pick in the draft.

Utah was eliminated in a nail-biting Game 7 on Tuesday by the Denver Nuggets after Nuggets star Nikola Jokic hit a shot with less than 30 seconds left in the game to give Denver a 80-78 lead.

The Denver Nuggets are struggling to reach the playoffs once again. After the last season, and failing to enter the postseason, Nuggets fans were hoping that their team is going to improve and provide some playoff basketball, after a long time.

However, it appears that this isn’t going to happen. Mike Malone’s boys are losing pace, and No. 8 seed looks a bit distant from them. Experts were predicting that Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are going to become a wonder duo, which is going to guide the team from Colorado through the challenges of the NBA.

That turned out to be true at some point, but not anymore. Indeed these two young guys had a superb season, but the support from the rest of the players was just too weak. And when we add the fact that Paul Millsap picked up an early-season injury, which removed him from the court for a long time, it is more clear why the team isn’t doing great.

Also, we need to say that Nuggets executives made several bad decisions which hugely affected the current state of the franchize. One of the best rookies this season, and the undisputed leaders of Utah Jazz, Donovan Mitchell, was drafted by the Nuggets, and then traded to Salt Lake City for Trey Lyles and pick No. 24, Tyler Lydon. So at this stage, Malone and his team are not capable of being serious playoff contenders.
