]]>Brees has been out since Week 10 when he suffered several broken ribs and had collapsed lungs during the game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Saints started backup Taysom Hill in his absence, notching four straight wins before a surprising loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.
Rapoport reports that the Saints still feel good about playing Hill against the Chiefs if Brees isn’t fully fit to get back on the field. However, the veteran signal-caller made good progress in recent days and will push to get his spot under center back.
It isn’t surprising that Drew Brees wants to return to the field so badly, especially since he might be playing his last season in the NFL. Before he calls it quits, Brees wants to make another Super Bowl run, and the Saints look to be in a position to do that this season.
Brees has been productive as usual in 2020, leading the league in completion percentage with 73.5 while throwing for 2,196 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games. The 41-year-old legend also has only three interceptions for the year.

]]>Speaking with WWL Radio on Wednesday, Brees said that he believes he “can beat” the projected timetable for his rehab.
“As far as the timetable for getting back though, they say 6 to 8 weeks. I think I can beat that, but I’m just gonna take it one week at a time and see how things go,”- said Brees.
The rehab process isn’t as tough on Brees as the fact that he is unable to play football. In the previous 13 years with the Saints, the 40-year-old Pro Bowler only missed two games.
“It was weird watching on TV. It was really weird. I didn’t really like it,” – he added. “Listen, I’m still one of the leaders of this team and a captain. I’m gonna do whatever I can to help.”
Despite losing Brees, Saints had the luck of having arguably the best backup QB in the league. Bridgwater, who is also the highest-paid backup in NFL, stepped in for Brees in Week 3 and while not impressing, he showed New Orleans that they can rely on him by throwing for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
