Drew Brees won’t continue in his role as an NFL analyst for NBC Sports. The news was confirmed by the network’s chairman Pete Bevacqua on Wednesday.

Brees retired from professional football after the 2020 season and jumped right into the broadcasting booth. He did work as a studio and game analyst, being a presence during NBC’s NFL programs and coverage of Notre Dame games.

However, Brees struggled with the transition, and the two sides decided it was better for everyone to end their partnership. Bevacqua also hinted that the future Hall of Famer wants to spend more time with his family.

“It was a new role, and everyone has a learning curve. I think he did an unbelievable job with Notre Dame and improved every week,” Bevacqua added. “He was always unbelievably prepared, curious about how things were handled and the work that went into it.”

Brees will remain under contract with NBC, but the network won’t stop him if he decides to pursue other opportunities. However, that seems unlikely at the moment, and the former New Orleans Saints star will probably take some time to figure out his next move.

Brees already addressed his future in a tweet sent out last month when the reports about his NBC exit first surfaced. One of the options he mentioned was playing football again, but that was interpreted more as sarcasm than as a real possibility.

The New Orleans Saints’ legend Drew Brees is currently on the top of the NFL’s all-time list for most passing yards 80,358, but he won’t hold the record for much longer. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tom Brady only needs to pass for 68 more yards to jump over Brees and is expected to do so in Week 4 against his old team, the New England Patriots.

Brees recently spoke with ESPN about Brady breaking his record and said that he wouldn’t want to see it drag any longer. In fact, he would like to see it happen on the first play of the game.

“I’d be all for Brady just launching the first play of the game, just go ahead and get it out of the way,” Brees said. “You said he needs, what? Sixty-eight yards? Let’s have New England kick it in the end zone, start at the 25 and have him launch one to Mike Evans, and let’s just be done with it.”

It shouldn’t surprise that Drew Brees is in favor of seeing his record broken with one big play, as he did the same in 2018. The Saints were playing Washington in Week 5, and Brees entered the game third on the all-time passing list behind Payton Manning and Brett Favre. He first jumped over Favre with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Josh Hill and then passed Manning with a spectacular 62-yard touchdown pass to Tre-Quan Smith.

Once he is passed by Brady on the all-time passing yards list, Brees will still own a few NFL records that might be harder to reach. He is currently the leader in career pass completion percentage with 67.79 completed passes while also holding the record with most consecutive games with a touchdown pass (54).

After endless speculations, Drew Brees has finally announced that he’s retired from the NFL. His retirement ends a 20-year stint in the league in which he enjoyed monumental success with the New Orleans Saints.

The legendary quarterback announced the news officially in a clip on his Instagram profile. In the video, his kids can be seen more than excited that their father will now have more time to spend at home with them.

However, as Brees put it gently, this doesn’t mean he’s saying goodbye: “I am only retiring from playing football, I am not retiring from New Orleans,” he wrote in a caption. “This is not goodbye, rather a new beginning. Now my real life’s work begins!”

Brees was originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers, where he then played a few seasons with moderate success. However, San Diego wasn’t willing to shell out enough money for him to stay, having no idea how good he would become. New Orleans were the ones who then put their faith in Brees, offering him a contract that he took.

As we all know, this worked out pretty well for both Brees and the Saints. Brees went on to become one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, making 12 Pro Bowls, breaking a handful of records, and even winning a Super Bowl for New Orleans.

Brees has another job lined up as well, and is set to be a sports analyst for NBC.

Tom Brady got the better of Drew Brees on Sunday night as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints 30-20 to secure their place in the NFC Championship.

Bucs vs. Saints was arguably the most-anticipated game so far in the playoffs as it delivered a showdown of two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks approaching the end of their careers. It was also the oldest quarterback matchup in postseason history as Tampa Bay’s Brady (43) and New Orleans’ Brees (42) have the combined age of 85.

The clash of veterans did deliver, but not in the way everyone expected. Instead of the aging quarterbacks, the defenses and running games were on display in what turned out to be a highly entertaining game.

The contest was pretty much even throughout the first three quarters, with both teams managing to put 20 points on the scoreboard and set up a nail-biting final period. Here, the Bucs were the team with better nerves as their defense managed to shut down Brees while Brady and the offense did just enough to seal the game.

The turning point came midway through the fourth quarter when Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White managed to pick off Brees in New Orleans’ territory. The Bucs took the ball on the Saints’ 20 and didn’t have much trouble getting it to the endzone.

Brees threw another interception, his third of the game, on the following drive and cleared any doubts about the winner.

Tom Brady finished the game with 199 passing yards, two TD throws, and one TD rush. He is off to Green Bay next week, where he’ll face the Packers and one more future Hall of Fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers while searching for a shot at his seventh Super Bowl ring.

Drew Brees, on the other hand, managed just 134 yards and one touchdown pass while turning over the ball three times. Brees didn’t offer much info about his future after the game, but he is expected to retire in the next few weeks and start his broadcasting career.

According to rumors around the league, the only way that the Chicago Bears embattled quarterback Mitch Trubisky would be able to save his job would be by making a deep run in the playoffs.

That didn’t happen, with the New Orleans Saints easily cruising to a 21-9 win over the Bears in their Super Wild-Card matchup on Sunday.

Earlier in the season, Trubisky was benched in Week 3 after a slow start leading the offense. The team was handed over to journeyman quarterback Nick Foles, who quickly showed that he was not the answer at quarterback either.

Trubisky then got his job back in Week 12 and showed significant improvement in his play at the end of the regular season. However, reports claimed that the improvement he showed wouldn’t be enough to save his job unless he led a deep playoff run.

The New Orleans Saints and their veteran quarterback Drew Brees made sure that wasn’t going to happen. Brees threw two touchdown passes and star running back Alvin Kamara ran in another one to give the Saints an easy 21-9 win.

Trubisky went 19 of 29 for 199 yards and threw one touchdown at the end of the game that was completely inconsequential as the Saints had already secured the victory. The Bears were also poor in the running game, managing only 48 yards from scrimmage on the ground.

The Saints will face Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the next round, a team that they have already beaten twice this year.

The Bears will have a very important offseason ahead of them in which they will have to decide whether they are going to give Trubisky another shot or move on from him and find another quarterback.

The retirement rumors have surrounded Drew Brees for several years now, but after every season the New Orleans Saints’ star quarterback would decide to give it another run. However, it appears that won’t be the case in 2021.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the overwhelming expectations around the league and inside the Saints’ building is that Brees is going to retire after this season.

During his recent appearance on Sunday NFL Countdown, Schefter said that the move is expected due to Bree’s age, recent injuries, and the deal he signed with NBC Sports to take on a broadcasting job once he finishes his career.

Brees, who turns 42 this January, missed time with injuries in each of the last two regular-season games. In 2019 he had to sit out five games due to a thumb fracture, while also missing four games in 2020 due to rib fractures and a collapsed lung.

If the retirement report is true, Drew Brees will be extremely motivated in the postseason, trying to get another Super Bowl ring before all is said and done. The Saints are set to open the playoffs against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Despite the injuries and setbacks, Brees is playing another productive season. In 12 games in 2020, he completed 70.5 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,942 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

The New Orleans Saints might have their star quarterback Drew Brees on the field when they face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday after all. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brees returned to practice Wednesday and wants to play in the game against the Chiefs.

Brees has been out since Week 10 when he suffered several broken ribs and had collapsed lungs during the game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Saints started backup Taysom Hill in his absence, notching four straight wins before a surprising loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week.

Rapoport reports that the Saints still feel good about playing Hill against the Chiefs if Brees isn’t fully fit to get back on the field. However, the veteran signal-caller made good progress in recent days and will push to get his spot under center back.

It isn’t surprising that Drew Brees wants to return to the field so badly, especially since he might be playing his last season in the NFL. Before he calls it quits, Brees wants to make another Super Bowl run, and the Saints look to be in a position to do that this season.

Brees has been productive as usual in 2020, leading the league in completion percentage with 73.5 while throwing for 2,196 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games. The 41-year-old legend also has only three interceptions for the year.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to miss a significant amount of time after suffering rib fractures on both sides and a collapsed lung over the course of two weeks.

According to reports, Brees suffered three fractured ribs on the right side of his body against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week and then suffered two more fractured ribs this week against the San Francisco 49ers. The team states that none of these injures were known until Brees underwent an X-ray on Monday.

The Saints had a comfortable lead against the 49ers on Sunday, which allowed Brees to sit out the second half of the game.

The New Orleans coaching staff has not made any statements on how long Brees will need to recover. Most believe that Brees could be back in two to three weeks, but the team’s priority will be to make sure that Brees will be healthy for the playoffs.

The 41-year-old quarterback is having yet another great season, already passing for 2,196 passing yards and 18 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Brees also leads the league in completion percentage, which he has done for the last three years.

The Saints have a 7-2 record and look to be a lock for playoffs. They will look to former Bucs quarterback Jamies Winston to lead the team while Brees heels.

Winston was signed to a one-year deal by the Saints after being released by the Bucs. He was the 2015 number one overall pick in the NFL draft but has struggled with turnovers his entire career.

The New Orleans Saints completed the season sweep of their divisional rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, pummeling them 38-3 to get their second win against the Bucs this season.

The Saints are now in first place in the NFC South. Drew Brees and the Saints handed Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady not just the worst loss of the season, but the worst loss of Brady’s entire 20-year career. The 38-3 is Brady’s worst loss since getting shut out by the Buffalo Bills 31-0 while playing for the New England Patriots back in 2003.

Brady threw three interceptions in the ugly Sunday night loss and posted a terrible QB rating of 40.4.

On the other side, Brees and the Saints offense were red-hot all night, putting together a balanced and near-perfect performance to dominate the usually strong Bucs defense.

The Saints defense was just as impactful, with their big-time players like Marshon Lattimore, Malcolm Jenkins, and Demario Davis showing up all over the field to stymie Brady and his cast of high-end offensive weapons.

The Bucs will stay in the division next week as well, visiting the 3-6 Carolina Panthers, while the Saints will look to get a win against the 4-5 San Francisco 49ers at home.

New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees will make another run for Super Bowl in 2020. According to several reports around the league, the two sides agreed to a new two-year deal.

Brees was set to become a free agent this offseason, but it was clear from the start that he would only return to New Orleans if he decides to continue playing football. All doubts were cleared on Tuesday when the 41-year-old signal-caller inked an extension that will prolong his time with the Saints through 2021.

Reportedly, Brees also gave Saints a hometown discount, getting a salary of just $25 million a year. While he could get a lot more on the open market, the veteran decided to take less so New Orleans could invest in a contending team.

Despite his age, Drew Brees played on a high-level last year, earning his 13th Pro Bowl berth. While Brees played only 11 games due to hand injury, he still managed to pass for close to 3,000 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 74.3 percent of his passes. The 2019 NFL season also saw him breaking Peyton Manning’s record for most career touchdowns.

Since joining the Saints in 2006, Brees established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game. He led New Orleans to the franchise’s first Super Bowl title in 2019 while setting numerous records along the way. Besides having most touchdown passes (541) in NFL history, he also has the most career passing yards (77,416) and most career pass completions (10,161).
