Although Cleveland Browns’ running back Duke Johnson asked for a trade back in March, he still decided to attend the team’s minicamp that started on Tuesday. This prompted many to assume that Johnson changed his mind about leaving Cleveland, but it turns out this isn’t the case.

”I want to be somewhere I’m wanted,” – said Johnson while talking with reporters.

”I’m big on loyalty,” – he added. ”I’ve felt as I’ve been loyal to this organization through it all, and the moment that I no longer have loyalty – and that’s even in my personal life, friends, family, the moment the loyalty stops, it stops on both ends. It’s not a one-way street. It stops on my end.”

Johnson, who was a third-round pick in 2015, later explained that Browns tried to trade him a month before he filed a trade request.  The 25-year-old also stated that he is set on leaving and that he doesn’t expect this situation will change.

Despite Johnson’s desires to be traded, the Browns indicated that they are not in a hurry to grant his wish. A few weeks ago, Cleveland’s general manager John Dorsey told the media that they still see him as a member of the team and count on him for 2019.

After having more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2017, Duke Johnson saw his role getting diminished last season in favor of rookie Nick Chubb. Johnson ended 2018 with career-low 40 carries for 201 yards and 47 catches for 429 yards. He failed to score a rushing touchdown for the first time since his rookie season but managed to add three receiving TDs.
