The Spanish legend once again tumbled records just like he always does when he is on the courts of Roland Garros, proving that he is the reigning king of the French Open.

Rafael Nadal enchanted the audience with a swift play and beat the 25-year-old Austrian Dominic Thiem after briefly giving him some false hope. Winning his 12th championship, The Spaniard set another great record that will hardly be broken by anyone else anytime soon.

The Austrian Thiem struggled hard but he could not do anything to stop Nadal. The match lasted for exactly three hours on the Court Philippe Chatrier and Nadal won with 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 and 6-1, claiming his 18th Grand Slam trophy.

With this victory Nadal became the first to win a dozen titles in the same court, getting 4 victories ahead of Federer’s 8 victories at Wimbledon and the 7 victories in Melbourne that Novak Djokovic has under his belt. And since he is 33 years old, he became the third oldest player to win this tournament after Gimeno in ’72 and Rosewal in ’68.
