The post Warriors Attempted to Trade for LeBron James appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors’ owner, Joe Lacob, personally reached out to Lakers’ owner Jeanie Buss in order to ask about James’ availability. James has previously expressed frustration over the state of the Lakers’ roster, prompting rumors about him wanting to leave the franchise.
Buss reportedly told Lacob that the Lakers weren’t interested in trading James but still referred him to James and his agent, Rich Paul. If James wanted out, it is believed that she wouldn’t stand in the way.
However, Paul ended up delivering the same answer: James doesn’t want to move and is happy to remain with the Lakers.
Wojnarowski and Shelburne add that Warriors’ forward Draymond Green played a significant role in the attempt to bring James to Golden State. Green was the one who encouraged Lacob to make the call while also trying to get Paul, who is also his agent, to help him recruit James to the Lakers.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Warriors come knocking on James’ doors in the offseason. The 39-year-old player will become a free agent in the summer, and although he has a player option, he could entertain offers from other teams if the Lakers’ season ends in a disappointment.
Both the Warriors and the Lakers ended up staying pat during the trade deadline. The Warriors are currently sitting at No. 10 in the Western Conference with a 26-25 record. The Lakers are one spot ahead with a 29-26 record.

]]>The post Golden State Warriors Reportedly Open to Trading Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>During his recent appearance on Run It Back, Charania said that the Warriors are looking into ways to improve their roster and will “take calls” on Wiggins and Paul. Several other players might be available for the right price, even franchise legend Klay Thompson.
Paul seems to be the prime candidate to be traded out of the trio. The 38-year-old hasn’t been nearly as efficient as the Warriors hoped he would be when they acquired him in a trade that saw Jordan Poole join the Washington Wizards. He is averaging a career-low 8.9 points to go with 3.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists.
The reason why teams might be interested in Paul is his large expiring contract. He is earning $30 million this season and has a team option for 2024-25. Any team acquiring Paul would likely do so in a bid to clear out the cap space.
Wiggins, on the other hand, is also having a down year, averaging just 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting 31.0% from behind the three-point line. Still, he is less than two years removed from his All-Star appearance, and teams might believe he can rediscover his form in a different environment.
The Warriors are currently sitting at No. 12 in the Western Conference with a 19-24 record. They are 3.5 games behind the Utah Jazz, which holds the last play-in spot.

]]>“Everybody is excited to see him,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after Green’s suspension was lifted. “He’s one of our leaders and he’s happy to be back. So it’s a good vibe.” While he is yet to return to the court, the forward participated in the Warriors’ walk-through on Sunday in what was his first appearance at the team’s facilities since his suspension.
The 33-year-old player spectated the Warriors’ 133-118 loss to the Toronto Raptors, participating in the team’s huddles during timeouts. The forward is expected to take around one week to prepare in order to return to his playing form, with Kerr revealing that Green is set to work with trainer Rick Celebrini on a daily basis to prepare. The Warriors are next set to face the Chicago Bulls on Friday before playing the Milwaukee Bucks the next day.

]]>The post Warriors’ Stephen Curry Sees His 3-Point Streak End After 268 NBA Games appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Curry had a poor shooting night against the Blazers, making only two shots from the floor and finishing the game with seven points. The 35-year-old player also didn’t make a single three-pointer, marking the end of an impressive streak.
Before the Blazers game, Curry had made at least one three-pointer in 268 NBA games, which is an absolute record. The last time he didn’t score behind the arc was a 134-111 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in November 2018. Now, the longest streak belongs to Bucks’ Damian Lillard, who has 102 consecutive games in which he made a three-point shot.
“We can’t rely on Steph to bail us out on every single night,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after the game. “It was a tough night for him. But that’s what a team is supposed to be about — everybody filling in for each other, different guys stepping up each night. That’s a great sign because he’s carried us for long enough this year. We need to give him more help.”
While he had an off night against the Blazers, Stephen Curry has been playing lights out so far in the 2023-24 campaign. He is averaging 28.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

]]>The incident took place in the third quarter of the Suns vs. Warriors game. While Nurkic was defending him, Green turned around with his hand swinging and hit the Bosnian center across the face. Nurkic fell to the ground, and Green was ejected following a video review by the officials.
According to the league’s announcement, Green’s suspension takes into account his previous “repeated history of unsportsmanlike conduct.” The 33-year-old player was already suspended twice this season.
Before he returns to court, Green will be “required to meet certain league and team conditions.”
For his part, Green tried to do some damage control after the incident, apologizing to Nurkic and saying the hit was unintentional.
“I am not one to apologize for things I mean to do, but I do apologize to Jusuf because I didn’t intend to hit him,” Green said after the Suns game. “I sell calls with my arms … so I was selling the call … and I swung and unfortunately I hit him.”
Green played 15 games with the Warriors this season. He is averaging 9.7 points, his most since the 2017-18 campaign, to go with 5.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists.

]]>Iguodala, who played just eight games last season due to injuries, confirmed his decision for Andscape.
“It’s just the right time,” Iguodala said. “Time started to get limited for me, and I didn’t want to put anything in the back seat.“
According to Iguodala he made the decision in part because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
“You want to play at a high level. But then the family is a lot. My son is 16 and then two girls. So, [I’m] looking forward to seeing them grow up in those important years,“ he added.
Iguodala is best known for his two stints with the Golden State Warriors. Across eight seasons with the franchise, Iguodala played a key role in helping the Warriors win four NBA titles and make two more NBA Finals appearances. He was named NBA Finals MVP in 2015.
After the news about his retirement became official, the Warriors issued a congratulations to Iguodala on social media.
Andre Iguodala also played with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Denver Nuggets, and the Miami Heat during his time in the NBA. He retires with one All-Star nod, two All-Defensive Team selections, and career stats that include 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game.

]]>Thompson reports that nothing is finalized yet, but there is an overwhelming optimism that the deal will be brought over the finishing line. If everything goes well, the official announcement is expected to be made at some point in October.
The Bay Area WNBA team would be located in Oakland, where the old Warriors practice facility is located.
However, they would play their home games at San Francisco’s Chase Center, just like the NBA team.
“We have had productive conversations with the WNBA and look forward to the possibility of being a part of the league’s expansion plans. However, it would be premature to assume any potential agreement has been finalized,” said the Warriors when reached out for comment by The Athletic.
Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob has deep ties with women’s basketball, having played a part in establishing American Basketball League as an owner of San Jose Lasers. However, the league only played two full seasons in 1996 and 1997 before folding midway through the 1998 season.
WNBA has been considering adding more teams to its 12-team league for a while now. The current plan is to get one or two new teams to join by 2025.

]]>The post Bob Myers Steps Down as Warriors’ General Manager appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The Warriors wanted to keep Myers around, reportedly offering him a lucrative new contract that would make him one of the highest-paid executives in the league. However, the 48-year-old manager decided it was time to move on and embark on a new challenge.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Myers shared that he believes the Warriors are set up for success in years to come, and his departure won’t change that.
“This team is in great shape. Joe is not going anywhere,” Myers said. “You’ve got a fantastic coach. You’ve got arguably one of the best players to ever play, one of the best people to ever play Steph Curry. So the future is unbelievably bright.”
Despite Myers’ optimism, it’s no secret that the Warriors are facing a challenging offseason. They need to sort out the extensions for their key players, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, while also trying to find a way to upgrade their roster while facing a huge tax bill.
It is unclear how the Warriors will approach their search for Myers’ replacement. According to reports, team owner Joe Lacob aims to give a more prominent role to his son Kirk Lacob, who currently serves as an executive vice president of basketball operations. The team’s VP of basketball operations, Mike Dunleavy Jr., is also expected to share a heavier load of responsibilities.
Bob Myers joined the Warriors in 2011 as an assistant general manager. He was promoted to the GM role a year later and went on to build a team that won four championships and played six NBA finals between 2014–15 and 2021–22.

]]>The Warriors trailed at the half of Game 4 by four points but delivered their signature third-quarter barrage that saw them build a 10-point lead to start the final period. The Kings made a strong comeback effort in the fourth, and got within one point with 30 seconds left on the clock thanks to a curios mistake by Golden State’s Stephen Curry.
Curry called a timeout after being double-teamed, forgetting that head coach Steven Kerr used all of his timeouts. Sacramento’s Malik Monk made the technical free-throw before De’Aaron Fox drilled a three-pointer for 125-126.
The Kings played great defense on the following possession to get the ball back and set themselves up for a potential game-winning shot. Still, they couldn’t seal the deal as Harrison Barnes missed his three-point attempt as the clock expired.
The Warriors were led by the “Splash Brothers,” seeing Curry score 32 points and Klay Thompson go for 26. Fox had 38 points for the Kings while rookie Keegan Murray added 23 points and seven rebounds.
The series now returns to Sacramento for Game 5 on Wednesday night.

]]>Iguodala injured his wrist during the Warriors’ 123-112 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night. This is the latest setback in what has been an injury-ridden season for Iguodala.
Having only made his season debut in January, Iguodala was out for the first 39 games due to a left hip injury. He then played in three games before being forced out of the next 21 games due to right hip soreness.
Currently on a one-year veteran minimum contract with the Warriors, Iguodala’s absence will be heavily felt by the Warriors, head coach Steve Kerr admitted.
Without Iguodala’s availability, the Warriors’ injury crisis continues to worsen. After a three-game absence, Jonathan Kuminga continues to harbor a right ankle sprain while Lester Quinones’ 10-day contract expired, leaving two-way players Ty Jerome and Anthony Lamb ineligible to play.
