“We are pleased to have come to an agreement with Ilsinho and welcome him back to our roster for the 2020 season,” said the team’s sporting director Ernst Tanner in a statement. “His footwork and ability to press and possess on the attack are unmatched and proved to be crucial to our successful 2019 season, as they have over the last four seasons with the club. We look forward to what his continued leadership and skill will bring to our midfield this season.”
Getting Ilsinho back on board marks the continuation of Philadelphia’s busy offseason. The team previously also acquired striker Jamiro Monteiro and midfielders, Matej Oravec and Jose Andres Martinez.
Before coming to MLS, Ilsinho spent the majority of his career in Ukraine, where he played with Shakhtar Donetsk in two separate stints. He also played with Sao Paolo and Internacional in his native Brazil while making one appearance for the Brazilian national team.
