]]>Brunson not only set his career high, but his 61 points were also second-most in a single game in franchise history. He ended up coming just one point shy from tying Carmelo Anthony’s record of 62 points.
In order to get to 61, Brunson took 47 shots. This is the most in the NBA since 2016, when late Kobe Bryant attempted 50 shots in his farewell game.
While Brunson’s offensive masterclass got the Knicks close to an important win, they just couldn’t close it out. This is something that Brunson acknowledged after the game, saying that his performance “doesn’t really matter”.
“It’s great, but … that stuff is washed out the window with a loss,” Brunson said. “So it doesn’t really matter.”
By failing against the Spurs, the Knicks have seen their chances of making a run for the second seed in the East being diminished. They are sitting at No. 4 with a 44-29 record and are two games behind the second-placed Milwaukee Bucks. Also, they are in danger of losing the home-court advantage, being just 1.5 games ahead of fifth-placed Orlando Magic.

]]>Just 45 minutes before tipoff, the Mavericks confirmed that Brunson would be unavailable for selection. He had previously been labeled as questionable for the game.
This marks Brunson’s first absence this season, having appeared in the reverse fixture of this clash, when the Mavericks soared to yet another overtime victory with the game ending 121-120 in New York City.
Brunson spent the first four seasons of his career with the Dallas Mavericks, emerging as the Mavericks’ second-highest scorer last season as the Mavs made it to the Western Conference Finals.
Although the Mavs hoped to re-sign Brunson for another season, the point guard ultimately decided to agree to the four-year, $104 million deal offered to him by the Knicks.

]]>According to the statement issued by the league, “the Knicks engaged in free agency discussions involving Jalen Brunson prior to the date when such discussions were permitted.” Brunson signed a four-year, $104 million contract with the franchise when the free agency officially opened.
The news that the Knicks disregarded the rules doesn’t come as a big surprise, considering Brunson’s ties with the organization before he came to New York. Rick Brunson, Jalen’s father, became the Knicks’ assistant coach one month before his son signed with the franchise. Also, the current Knicks’ president Leon Rose was the former agent of Jalen Brunson, while Rose’s son Sam is his current agent.
Still, the Knicks shouldn’t be too concerned about the price they “paid” for Brunson. The 26-year-old has been playing his best basketball as a pro in New York. He is averaging 20.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in 2022-23, all career-highs.

]]>He became the 50th player in history to receive this awards. Before him, we saw many players getting this title, including Bill Walton, Patrick Ewing, Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant and of course, the greatest of all times, Michael Jordan.
His rivals were Deandre Ayton from Arizona, Devonte Graham from Kansas and Marvin Bagley III from Duke.
“This is a great honor to be among the greats that have won the Naismith Trophy,” said Brunson to Villanova.com. “It’s a credit to my family, which has sacrificed a lot, and my teammates and coaches, who have helped me become the confident player I am. I’m really thankful that I get to do this with a group of guys I love. It’s all a credit to them.”
The New Jersey-born has been outstanding this season averaging 19.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 39 games played for his Wildcats. Without a doubt, he has been the leader of this team, which reached the finals of this year’s March Madness. They will be facing Michigan Wolverines this Monday, in Alamodome, and Brunson will be chasing his second NCAA championship because he already has one, won in 2016, when his team defeated North Carolina in one epic match.
He is also a candidate for clinching the fourth Player of the year awards, Wooden trophy. That one is going to be announced on Friday, April the 6th.
