Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco was one of the best stories in the 2023 NFL season. After spending most of the year on the couch, Flacco stepped in to lead the Cleveland Browns to four straight regular-season wins as a starter and helped them clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Considering his unlikely return, Flacco has been one of the favorites to receive this season’s NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. But the 39-year-old player believes there is someone else a lot more deserving of the award.

Speaking on Zach Gelb Show, Flacco campaigned for his Buffalo Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin to receive Comeback POY honors. Hamlin returned to the field in 2023 following a cardiac arrest last season.

“I just think mentally to get yourself back to the point where you feel comfortable doing that kind of thing, obviously the physical part doesn’t need any explanation, but the mental part, especially at his position, is pretty cool,” Flacco said.

Even if he doesn’t think he should win the award, Flacco added that he is honored to be the finalist while poking a bit of fun at himself.

“Anytime you’re getting recognized in this league for playing well, it’s flattering. It’s a cool group to be a part of, that’s for sure,” he said. “I’m just coming back from being old and not being on a team for a couple months.”

Hamlin is the favorite for the award, with Flacco being given second-best odds. The list also includes Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams), and Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins).

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco is returning to New York for another stint with the Jets. The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Tuesday night that they had traded Flacco to the Jets while picking up a 2022 conditional sixth-rounder in return.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the sixth-round pick can become a fifth-rounder depending on Flacco’s playing time.

Flacco spent the 2020 NFL season with the Jets, serving as a backup for Sam Darnold. He ended up starting four games with the franchise after Darnold got hurt, going 0-4 and throwing for 864 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The 36-year-old left New York after his contract expired at the end of the season and ended up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles to serve as their second QB behind Jalen Hurts. He failed to play a single snap for Philly in the first seven weeks of 2021.

The Jets found themselves in need of a quarterback after their rookie Zach Wilson went down with a knee injury last week. Head coach Robert Saleh is expected to stick with four-year veteran Mike White under center in Wilson’s absence while Flacco steps into a backup role.

“Joe is just a great person to be around, a great pro to be around, had a phenomenal preseason, and was really good for our [QB] room,” said Eagles coach Nick Sirianni after the trade became official. “But the opportunity arose for him to go and be able to contribute somewhere else and also for us to get a pick for that. But our time with Joe Flacco was really good.”

The New York Jets are not having a good season.

After losing on Monday night to the New England Patriots on a last-second field goal, the team is now 0-9 on the season, which is the first time in franchise history that the Jets have opened a season with nine straight losses and counting.

New York was in the game for the majority of it but collapsed in the 4th quarter to allow the Patriots, who are also a team destined to start a rebuild next year, to take the game 30-27.

Even though there are still seven games left to play, the Jets are almost certainly going to have the top pick in the 2021 NFL draft. This means that they are going to have to decide whether current quarterback Sam Darnold, who was hurt and didn’t play last night, is the long-term answer.

Most believe that the Jets will restart at the quarterback position with Trevor Lawrence, the Clemson star who most believe will be the first player taken in the draft and who many say is the best QB prospect coming out of college since former Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Andrew Luck was drafted in 2012.

The Jets will almost undoubtedly also fire head coach Adam Gase, who has been on the hot seat for over a year now and hasn’t been able to make the team competitive or help Darnold take his game to the next level, which he was brought in to do.

Denver Broncos received some pretty bad news on Thursday regarding the neck injury of their starting quarterback Joe Flacco. It looks like Flacco will miss at least six weeks of football recovering and will probably end up on the injured reserve.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, this news was delivered to Broncos after Flacco received a second opinion on the injury. He will seek additional opinion, but it seems like that won’t change the Broncos’ decision to place him on IR.

Flacco was diagnosed with a herniated disk in his neck last week, but he won’t require surgery. Still, it doesn’t make sense for Broncos to keep a roster place open for him as they are currently 2-6 and don’t have a season to salvage. The team will probably end up testing their younger quarterbacks, especially Drew Lock, whom they took in the second round of 2019 NFL Draft.

There is a big possibility that Joe Flacco has played his last game with the Broncos. So far, he didn’t show he can lead the team to winning ways, and Denver isn’t interested in being just mediocre. This is why the team might be tempted to move on from Flacco in March.

Broncos would have to eat up $13.6 million in dead money in 2020 if they release Flacco, but this sounds like a better option than paying him $23.65 million for a losing record. The 34-year-old signal-caller is set to earn $27.65 million in 2021 under his current contract, with the 2022 and 2023 being team options.

In eight games he played with Broncos this season, Flacco completed 65.3 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,822 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Joe Flacco probably thought he will be orchestrating Baltimore Ravens’ offense for years to come. Instead, rookie Lamar Jackson relegated him to a backup and eventually got him traded to Denver Broncos. This is why it isn’t surprising that Flacco isn’t exactly too keen on mentoring another rookie QB in Drew Lock.

While Broncos brought in Flacco as their starter for 2019, they also decided to take Missouri’s QB Drew Lock in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Denver’s idea is to sit Lock for a few years behind Flacco and have him learn from the veteran. It seems, however, that the 22-year-old rookie will have to make a significant effort to get himself into that position.

“Listen, I have so many things to worry about. I’m trying to go out there and play good football. I’m trying to go out there and play the best football of my life,” – Flacco told reporters on Monday, after the Broncos’ first day of organized team activities. “As far as a time constraint and all of that stuff, I’m not worried about developing guys or any of that. That is what it is. I hope he does it well. I don’t look at that as my job. My job is to go win football games for this football team.”

Flacco later continued in a less harsh tone.

“Listen, I hope he does learn from me because that means we’re out there and we’re slinging it around and having a lot of fun.” – he added.

Lock, on the other hand, said that he is looking forward to working with Joe Flacco and learn from a Super Bowl winner like him.

“It will definitely be a different transition,” – said Lock. “… If I’m going through this transition I’m glad to be behind Joe and hear what he has to say, learn from him. I’m excited to meet him, excited to get in the room with him and learn from a guy who’s won a Super Bowl.”

Joe Flacco, considered to be the center of the Baltimore Ravens’ franchise just a couple of seasons ago, is now on the move to a new team.

Flacco has been traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Denver Broncos for a mid-round draft pick.

The 34-year-old quarterback was once a franchise star in Baltimore. He was drafted by the team out of the University of Delaware with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.

After being drafted by Baltimore in 2008, he was named the team’s starting quarterback in the same season. He spent the better part of 11 seasons as the Ravens’ starting quarterback until losing his starting job to Lamar Jackson last season.

The highlight of his Ravens career was leading the team to the 2013 Super Bowl title. Flacco was named the Super Bowl MVP in the Ravens’ 34-31 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Flacco, now 34 years old, will wear a new uniform for the first time in the NFL career in this move to the Broncos.

Flacco is expected to take over for Case Keenum as Denver’s starting quarterback.

The Broncos hope that Flacco will revive an anemic offense and put Denver back into playoff contention.
