Manziel most recently played football in 2019 with Memphis Express of the now-defunct Alliance of American Football. Since then, the 27-year-old QB spent his time away from the game, and it appears it will stay that way.

“In the past, probably, is the way I’d characterize it,” said Manziel when asked about his football career. “I’ve finally got to a point where I’m trying to achieve happiness in life, not happiness on the football field.”

Manziel added that “a lot of people probably want me to come back and play and give it another chance,” but he isn’t sure if that will happen.

Johnny Manziel was considered to be one of the best college players of his generation. He produced spectacular two seasons with Texas A&M in 2012 and 2013, during which he won all the major college football awards including a Heisman Trophy. Manziel entered the league in 2014 as Cleveland Browns’ 22nd overall pick.

Manziel, unfortunately, couldn’t replicate his college success in the pros, struggling with inconsistency and injuries. Things were even worse off-the-field due to his poor work ethic and troubles with the law. This all caused the Browns to release him after just two seasons.

After his failure with the Browns, Manziel failed to attract any significant interest from other NFL teams. In 2017, he went to Canadian Football League, where he played with Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes but didn’t have any major success there as well.
