The Angels designated Lucroy for assignment over the weekend after deciding not to go forward with him in their lineup for the rest of the season. Despite signing the veteran to a one-year, $3.35 million contract last December, the Angels decided to go their separate ways with the Florida native after only four months.

It’d be tough to imagine 2019 going any worse for the former Milwaukee Brewer. Lucroy hit only .242/.310/.371 with the Angels in 74 games, posting the worst defensive numbers of his career.

He actually slightly improved his putrid offensive outputs from 2017 and 2018, but his below-average bat combined with his worsening defense made it an easy decision for the Angels to look elsewhere. Lucroy wasn’t helped after a brutal collision in July which saw Houston Astros outfielder crash into him at home plate, breaking his nose and causing a concussion.

It probably won’t take long for Lucroy to find a home with another team that’s looking for a catching option. The Chicago Cubs are already reportedly looking to add Lucroy to help their catching depth after placing Willson Contreras on the injured list.
