“I always knew how I would feel when it is time to say goodbye to you, and that moment has arrived,” Georges wrote on Instagram. “I am ready to close the tennis chapter of my life and open a new one, which I am really excited about.”
Goerges’ last tournament appearance came at the 2020 French Open, where she was eliminated in the second round. She was the No. 45 ranked tennis player in the world at the moment of her retirement.
Throughout her career, Julia Goerges won seven WTA singles titles, including WTA Elite Trophy, in 2017. She also has five tournament wins in doubles.
Georges’ best result at Grand Slams came in 2018 when she reached Wimbledon semi-finals before being eliminated by Serena Williams in two sets. She never made it past the fourth round at the Australian Open, French Open, or U.S. Open.
