The four-time NBA All-Star point guard Kemba Walker is heading overseas. After failing to land a contract with an NBA team, Walker is now joining EuroLeague side AS Monaco.

Monaco announced the news on their social media, saying that Walker signed a one-year deal. The financial terms of the agreement remain unknown.

Walker started his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets in 2011 and went on to establish himself as a franchise cornerstone and a perennial All-Star player. The UConn product departed Charlotte in 2019 after the franchise didn’t want to sign him to a max contract and ended up joining the Boston Celtics in a sign-and-trade deal.

Walker had a successful start to his career as a Celtic, being selected as an All-Star in his first season with the franchise. However, a series of injuries caused him to only spend two years in Boston before embarking on underwhelming stints with the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics.

The 33-year-old played nine games with the Mavericks last season, averaging 8.0 points and 2.1 assists per game. He was released in January and remained a free agent since.

Walker will join Monaco as the club aims to retain its French Pro League title they won last season. They are also hoping to challenge for the EuroLeague title after finishing third this past season.

The Dallas Mavericks have moved to sign veteran guard Kemba Walker in an attempt to boost the team’s backcourt. The team will waive reserve point guard Facundo Campazzo in order to open a spot on the roster for the 32-year-old player.

A four-time All-Star, Walker has been training in Florida this season while awaiting the opportunity to be signed by an NBA team. He has been a free agent since mid-October following a decision by the Detroit Pistons to waive his contract.

Walker was traded to the Pistons from the New York Knicks on draft night in a cost-cutting move for the franchise. He averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists in 37 games last season for the Knicks.

Currently, Luka Doncic is the Mavericks’ standout star this season and is leading the NBA overall with 33.1 points per game. This statistic, however, has made opponents wary of the 23-year-old player as they continue to trap and double-team him in order to minimize his impact.

This is not the first time that Dallas has targeted the 32-year-old player. Walker was previously offered a contract by the Mavericks in 2019, however, he opted to rather sign for the Boston Celtics.

The Detroit Pistons made a decision to enter the 2022-23 NBA season without veteran point guard Kemba Walker on their roster. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Pistons will waive Walker by the end of the week.

Reportedly, the Pistons made a decision with the upcoming deadline for setting the regular season roster. Without Walker, Detroit will come down to 15 guaranteed roster spots.

Kemba Walker will leave Detroit without actually suiting up for the Pistons. The 32-year-old joined the franchise in an NBA Draft trade from the New York Knicks in what was essentially turning out to be a salary dump deal. The Pistons took on the $9 million owed to Walker in 2022-23 and draft rights to Tigers’ Jalen Duren while sending a heavily-protected first-rounder to New York.

New York City native Kemba Walker signed with the Knicks ahead of the 2021-22 season following a contract buyout from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Walker was expected to aid the Knicks’ chances of returning to playoffs, but the move turned out to be a disaster. He only played 37 games, averaging a career-low 11.6 points, before he was removed from the rotation.

Walker is best known for his time with the Charlotte Hornets, where he spent the first eight seasons of his NBA career. He was a three-time All-Star with the Hornets and received one All-NBA Third-Team honor.

Kemba Walker has been with the Knicks for a single season, but his time in New York wasn’t meant to last. The NY Knicks traded him to the Detroit Pistons as a part of a three-team deal that also involves Walker’s previous team the Charlotte Hornets.

As a part of this deal, Detroit is set to receive both Walker and no. 13 overall pick, Jalen Duren, from Charlotte. The Hornets acquired a future first-round pick and multiple future second-round picks as a part of this deal, including multiple picks from New York.

The Knicks sent Duren and Walker to the Pistons for a 2025 conditional Milwaukee Bucks first-round pick. This shake-up comes shortly after the team sent no. 11 overall pick Ousmane Dieng to Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for three future first-round picks.

Kemba’s exit from the Knicks doesn’t come as a huge shocker since he was sidelined for most of the season. After dealing with knee problems this winter, he reached an agreement with the team to take a break back in February. The Knick’s president of basketball operations Leon Rose said they fully support his “decision to shut it down for the remainder of the season and use this time to prepare for next season.”

Before joining the Knicks in 2021, Kemba spent eight seasons with the Hornets before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2019.

The New York Knicks were not to be denied in their 2021-22 NBA season opener against the Boston Celtics. Despite Boston coming from a six-point deficit in the last minute of regulation and forcing two overtimes, the Knicks still managed to go to distance and claim a 138-134 win.

After opening the game with an 8-0 run, the Knicks quickly fell behind and were trailing as much as 12 points midway through the second quarter. However, the Celtics took their foot off the gas and allowed New York to regroup.

The Knicks slowly chipped Boston’s lead in the third quarter and emerged at the top of 86-82 score to start the final period. It appeared that New York will wrap up the game in a comfortable fashion from that point onward, but Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart hit a three-pointer each as the clock was winding down to make it 116-116.

The first overtime saw teams exchanging leads before becoming sloppy and failing to get their offense going. The score was locked at 128-128 at 2:42, and neither team managed to make a basket until the clock reached zero.

The Knicks were hungrier for the win in the second overtime and managed to get it done mostly thanks to some big defensive stops and crucial baskets from Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose in the last minute.

Fournier, who spent the second part of the last season with the Celtics, ended the game with 32 points and made six out of 13 three-point attempts. Julius Randle added a near triple-double with 35 points, eight boards, and nine assists. Kemba Walker, another former Celtic, had a quiet night that saw him contribute 10 points.

The Celtics, on the other hand, had a big performance from Jaylen Brown. In 46 minutes on the floor, Brown scored 46 points and added nine rebounds and six assists. Jayson Tatum had 20 points despite a poor shooting night that saw him make only seven baskets out of 30 shots.

The Boston Celtics revealed on Monday that point guard Kemba Walker is set to miss the first chunk of the upcoming NBA season after undergoing a stem cell procedure on his left knee that will require at least a 12-week strengthening process.

Walker, who was signed as a free agent last offseason to replace departed star Kyrie Irving, dealt with knee problems last season and was never at 100% during the second half of the season. Minutes restrictions in the NBA Bubble and soreness forced him to miss significant minutes during Boston’s playoff run.

In order to attempt to correct the problem, the 30-year-old point guard underwent a procedure that the team hopes will produce added strength in his troublesome knee.

The downside to the procedure is that he won’t be ready until early January at the very earliest, leaving Boston without their starting point guard for the beginning of the season.

The team had hoped that Walker would be ready for the beginning of the season, but the earlier-than-expected December 22nd start date made it impossible for him to be ready in time for the season’s opening tip-off.

As coach Brad Stevens explained, “He’s had great work over the last few weeks with regard to strength, but we are going to proceed slow and I do think the expedited timeline on December 1st impacted him quite a bit in regard to his own timeline of starting the season on time.”

Walker hopes to join the team before too long, but he has a moderately long road left to go before he will be able to do so.

Former Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker made his first trip back to Buzz City on Thursday night since joining the Boston Celtics this off-season. It was an emotional night for the Hornets franchise legend, who was honored before the game with a video detailing his career highlights and honoring his eight years with the team.

The former UConn Husky, who averaged 19.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for Charlotte since being selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, has a special place in the heart of Hornets fans.

Walker summed up the evening by saying, “It was special. Just to be back here and the amount of love I’ve been getting throughout this day, leading up to this day, it’s been a lot of love and the video just topped it off. It’s special and it definitely obviously made me really emotional.”

The 29-year-old point guard shed a few tears as he watched the video dedication that the Hornets played before the beginning of the game.

Walker, clearly affected by his emotions, scored 14 points on 4-12 shooting along with 6 assists in his team’s 108-87 blowout win.

The Celtics have moved to 6-1 with their Thursday night win, while the Hornets now find themselves at .500 with a 4-4 record.

Entering the 2019 free agency, Kemba Walker was eligible to receive a supermax offer from Charlotte Hornets that was worth $221 million over five years. Instead, Hornets offered Walker five-year, $160 million, which unsurprisingly proved to be not enough to keep him around.

Boston Celtics used Hornets’ “cheapness” in their favor and jumped on the opportunity to give the 29-year-old All-Star a four-year, $140 million contract.

The decision to leave Charlotte wasn’t easy for Walker, as he stated multiple times in the past that he wanted to stick around and lead the team to success. Still, he says he has “no hard feeling” towards the Hornets as he begins his new adventure.

“They offered, but it just wasn’t an offer I could accept.” –  said Walker in an interview with the Charlotte Observer. “I guess that’s the (most) money that they had. I know they didn’t want to go over the (luxury) tax. Which I completely understand. It’s a business at the end of the day, and I respect the decision that they made. No hard feelings at all. I still love that organization and everything around it.”

“It was tough for me (to leave), and I know it was tough for them; for MJ (owner Michael Jordan) and Mitch to let me go. But at the end of the day you have to do tough things in life. It just happens.” – he added.

Kemba Walker is coming off a career season that saw him average 25.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game. He also earned his third straight All-Star appearance and first All-NBA honors.

Despite him playing at this kind of level, Hornets repeatedly failed to build a competitive team around Walker and to make a step forward in the East. By making him a low offer, it appears that Charlotte was ready to see him walk away and start to rebuild a process that will probably see them staying in the lottery for years to come.
