Forward Kevin Labanc will remain with the San Jose Sharks for at least one more year. The team announced on Monday that they have re-signed Labanc to a one-year deal.

According to reports, Labanc will earn $1 million in the 2019/20 NHL season according to his new contract. He will have the opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and if he continues with good performances, maybe get a significantly larger long-term deal on the open market.

The news was confirmed by Sharks’ general manager Doug Wilson while the team also placed an announcement on their social media.

“Kevin took a big step forward in his production last season and has grown into an important part of our team here in San Jose,” – said Wilson in a statement. “He’s always had a dangerous shot but really stepped into a playmaking role for us last season and improved his 200-foot game as well. We think he still has even more potential to tap into and we’re excited to see what he can do with an elevated role with this talented group.”

Kevin Labanc enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2018/19 when he registered career-highs all over the stats sheet including 17 goals and 39 assists. He was also at his best when it mattered the most, which included helping the Sharks to overcome Vegas Golden Knights in a crucial Game 7 in the first round of Stanley Cup playoffs. In that game, Labanc provided three assists and provided a decisive goal.

Since making his NHL debut in 2016, Labanc played a total of 214 games in the league and contributed 36 goals alongside 80 assists.
