The Miami Heat have already positioned themselves for a big move in NBA free agency. According to multiple reports, the Heat are currently the favorites to land free agent All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry.

The Heat don’t have space to sign Lowry outright, but they will explore the sign-and-trade route. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Heat already prepared outlined the offer they will make to the Raptors. The package would include guard Goran Dragic and forward Precious Achiuwa and possibly draft assets.

Lowry is also interested in this scenario. While he’ll have a number of other suitors, the 35-year-old player is intrigued by the possibility of playing with Miami’s Jimmy Butler and joining such a storied organization.

The Raptors are incentivized to be part of the sign-and-trade as they risk losing Lowry for nothing. Teams like the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans are not only interested in the guard but also have cap space to add him via free agency.

Since arriving in Toronto in 2012, Kyle Lowry established himself as one of the most consistent point guards in the league. He became a perennial All-Star while also playing a significant part in helping Toronto win the NBA Championship in 2019.

Lowry finished the 2020-21 NBA season averaging 17.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 7.3 assists. He previously also played for the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets.

It’s safe to say that the Toronto Raptors are struggling early this season. Despite being considered one of the top teams in the East before the season started, the Raptors have just one win and five losses, including a tough 126-114 defeat against the Boston Celtics on Monday night.

The Celtics played the Raptors after a back-to-back road series while also missing a number of their key players, including Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart. Still, that didn’t help The Raptors as they blew a 28-33 lead after the first quarter and then went on to trail by 15 at halftime. Boston continued to dominate in the second half and never looked in danger of losing the game.

Speaking with reporters after the gamer, All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry gave his opinion on his Raptors’ struggles and said that his team has “no swagger” at the moment.

“We just need to get a little bit grittier, get a little bit tougher and a little bit nastier, and have a little bit of a swagger to us,” said Lowry. “Right now, we have no swagger to us.“

Plenty of things went wrong for the Toronto Raptors this season, starting with the fact that they have to play their home games in Tampa Bay due to Canada’s coronavirus restrictions. Besides this, the Raptors are looking lost on the court and don’t have the same feel as the team that won the title in 2019.

The Raptors have been particularly poor on offense this year, being ranked 29th in the league in that department. This includes failing to get to the free-throw line, as they have the least free throw attempts per game so far in the season.

The defense is also problematic, considering that the team managed to blow double-digit leads in each of their five losses.

Raptors will have a chance to bounce back during their tour across the Western Conference this week. They are scheduled to play the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday and will also face the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Toronto Raptors completed the First Round sweep against Brooklyn Nets with a 150-122 victory on Sunday night, but this win came with a price. Raptors’ All-Star guard Kyle Lowry suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of the game and had to leave the game.

Lowry got injured late in the first period when he stepped on Nets’ Chris Chiozza’s foot while bringing the ball up the floor. The 34-year-old player was visibly limping after this but tried to remain on the court.

On the following possession, Lowry realized he can’t continue and made an intentional foul in order to sub himself out of the game. He immediately headed to the locker room and didn’t return.

By the end of the game, Raptors announced that Lowry suffered a “turned ankle.” The team’s head coach Nick Nurse confirmed this during a press conference, saying that the veteran point guard will undergo an MRI on Monday in order for the team to determine the extent of the injury.

The lucky break for the Raptors is the fact that they will get a few days to rest while awaiting their second-round duel against Boston Celtics. If there is no structural damage to Kyle Lowry’s ankle, this should give him enough time to return in time for Game 1.

Lowry averaged 16.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists through the first three games of the series against Brooklyn.

In the past two decades, Toronto Raptors struggled to keep their superstar players. Starting with Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter in early 2000s to the most recent example in Kawhi Leonard, stars choose to leave Toronto as soon as they got the opportunity. All-Star guard Kyle Lowry, however, doesn’t share this similar mindset.

Lowry, who is fresh off of winning an NBA title with the Raptors, is entering the final year of his deal and has the opportunity to become a free agent in the summer of 2020. Still, the 33-year-old isn’t keen on seeing that happening as he wants to do stay in Toronto for years to come.

“I want to be there – I would love to do a long extension, but we’ll see what happens,” – said Lowry via Yahoo Sports. “But we’ll have that discussion when the time is right.”

For the time being, Lowry is focused on the next season and trying to defend the NBA title. He is confident that Raptors still have a chance to do this despite seeing both Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green leave this summer to play in Los Angeles.

“We’re still going to be able to run it back.” – he said. “We’re the champions and we’re trying to defend our title. I’m confident with our team.”

Lowry played 65 games with Toronto in the past season, averaging 14.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game.
