]]>Irving requested a trade from the Nets last week after the contract extension negotiations between the two sides broke down. Several teams reached out to Brooklyn in recent days, including the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, but the Mavericks ended up putting the best offer on the table.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Dallas will be sending guard Spencer Dinwiddie, wing Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick, and two second-rounders (2027 and 2029) to the Nets. As part of the trade, the Mavs will also receive forward Markieff Morris.
Irving was involved in a number of off-the-court controversies in the recent season, but this hasn’t affected his game. In 40 games he played in 2022-23, the 30-year-old averaged 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.
The move gives the Mavs another star to play with Doncic, who emerged as a perennial MVP candidate in recent years. The franchise hopes the addition of Irving will give them enough firepower to contend for a championship and keep Doncic happy.
The Nets, on the other hand, probably received the most they could get for a player that didn’t want to be on their team anymore. Dinwiddie, who already played in Brooklyn between 2016 and 2021, and Finney-Smith can contribute right away while the team can package the incoming picks to make another trade and surround superstar Kevin Durant with more quality players.

]]>Under the current COVID-19 protocols in New York City, Irving is not able to play home games because of his vaccination status. He would be allowed to play away games in cities that don’t have a similar mandate, but the Nets decided not to go down the road of “part-time availability.”
“Again, my job here is to make what we deem as the best decision and best choices for the organization moving ahead as a whole,” said Marks during a virtual news conference on Tuesday. “They’re not always ones that are going to be met with open arms and a thumbs-up. These are hard decisions. Just like I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Kyrie either to have to make that [decision] to not be around his teammates.”
Marks also reiterated that the Nets would welcome Irving back to the team as soon as he is compliant with New York City’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Until then, the 29-year-old star will lose money for each home game that he doesn’t play. This would be 43 games, including regular season and preseason.
Irving, on the other hand, isn’t against the vaccine, according to a recent report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Instead, he’s reportedly “upset that people are losing their jobs due to vaccine mandates.”

]]>The 27-year-old got injured in the fourth quarter of the contest when he and Wizards’ Bradley Beal tangled up. Irving awkwardly landed on his knee and left to the locker room shortly after. The initial diagnosis of a sprain was later confirmed after an MRI.
After getting diagnosed, Irving went on social media to tell his followers that he will be “ok.”
“Honestly, what a scare, but I know God and the angels definitely looked out for me on that one!” said Irving.
Kyrie Irving struggled to stay on the court for the Nets this season, missing career-high 28 games. Most of the games he missed came due to a right shoulder impingement he suffered in November, and he only returned to action in mid-January.
Irving, who is in his first season with the Nets, is averaging career-high 27.4 points per game alongside 5.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists. Brooklyn is currently seventh in the East with 21-27 record and 20.5 games behind first placed Milwaukee Bucks.
