LeBron James returned from injury to play in the Los Angeles Lakers 118-108 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night, scoring 19 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. James’ return to the court comes after he consulted with a doctor whom he labeled “the LeBron James of feet” over whether or not he would be ready to return to the court.

James’ return comes after a 13-game absence due to a torn tendon in his right foot. While two doctors recommended that the Lakers star undergoes surgery to repair the tendon, the doctor who he confided in most advised against this notion.

“Obviously, the rhythm is the most important,” James said of his performance following the Bulls’ game. “”I had a couple of drives and the ball got away from me. A couple of shots didn’t feel as good as before, obviously. But I was out for four weeks, so between that and the wind, just trying to get those things back leading to the final stretch of the season.”

Fellow Lakers star Anthony Davis expressed his joy at James’ return, stating that this will help the Lakers to rediscover their form in the final games of the regular season.

LeBron James is feared to be out for several weeks after injuring his right foot during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 111-108 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday night.

The Lakers star collapsed in pain during the third quarter of the game after driving on the Mavs’ Dwight Powell. He ultimately finished the game, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Following the game, James was spotted walking with a noticeable limp. He is now set to undergo further tests to determine the full extent of the injury and will miss the Lakers’ upcoming game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

Although the injury was initially expected to be the result of a physical clash with Powell, video replays revealed that the players did not collide, making the injury noncontact.

James was also out injured before the All-Star break, missing three straight games after experiencing left foot and ankle soreness.

Going 36-62 in all games that James has been absent from since arriving in Los Angeles, the Lakers will need to learn how to cope without their key player should he remain sidelined for the indefinite future. The team is set to finish its three-game trip against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James returned from injury on Friday night, scoring 21 points to boost the Lakers to a 105-94 win over the San Antonio Spurs in what was their first win on the road this season. James had previously been sidelined for five games with a left groin strain.

“The fourth quarter has always been my favorite quarter,” James said after scoring eight of his points during that late stage of the contest. “That’s winning time, that’s closing time and to be out there and being able to execute and make plays in the fourth quarter, it’s always a treat for me.”

James’ partnership with fellow key player Anthony Davis made all the difference for the Lakers, with the two pairing up to score a combined 19 points in the fourth quarter alone. This is equal to the points total that the Spurs racked up as a team during the same period.

The Lakers struggled to find consistency without James during his five-game absence, with their record during the period sitting at 3-2 which included a three-game winning streak. During this time, Davis emerged as the Lakers’ gamechanger, averaging 33.2 points and 17.4 rebounds including a season-high 38 points during the victory over the Detroit Pistons on November 18.

The Los Angeles Lakers won’t have much issue paying this year’s luxury tax. The franchise just closed a jersey sponsorship deal with global Korean cuisine brand Bibigo that is reportedly worth $100 million over five years.

The Lakers announced the sponsorship on their official social media, calling Bibigo their “first-ever global marketing partner”. The deal will include jersey sponsorship, courtside branding, social media campaigns, and various other joint ventures between the Lakers and the food company.

“As Korea’s leading food brand, Bibigo is always looking for opportunities to innovate and expand their brand, and the Lakers are excited to help them to not only expand their global recognition but to provide the opportunity to reach new fans,” said Lakers President of Business Operations Tim Harris in a statement via NBA.com.

The Lakers’ previous jersey sponsor was California-based e-commerce company Wish. The LA team partnered with Wish ahead of the 2017-18 NBA season, and the deal was reportedly worth $12 million to $14 million on an annual basis.

If the numbers are correct and the Lakers receive $20 million annually from Bibigo, that would be tied for the biggest jersey sponsorship deal in the league. The Golden State Warriors had the most lucrative deal in NBA until now, earning $20 million a year by wearing the Rakuten patch on their jerseys. Most other teams are earning between $7 million and $10 million from their jersey patches.

Los Angeles Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka announced that the team has signed Rajon Rondo from the LA Clippers. This marks the veteran’s return to the franchise after departing for the Atlanta Hawks in 2019.

Rondo appeared in a combined 45 games for the Hawks and the Clippers last season, averaging 5.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 17.1 minutes. What’s more, he achieved 40.4 percent shooting accuracy from a three-point range.

During his previous tenure with the Lakers, Rondo achieved in more impressive results, averaging 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He made 94 appearances for the Lakers over two seasons, helping them lift the 2020 NBA Championship trophy.

Rondo believes that the LA Lakers have a strong chance of recapturing their 2020 glory this season, explaining: ‘Wisdom is definitely key to winning a championship. We have a lot of that, obviously, with the age and experience on the court.”

While previously the most experienced player on the team, Rondo is now the fifth oldest on the roster behind Carmelo Anthony (37), LeBron James (36), Marc Gasol (36), Trevor Ariza (36) and Dwight Howard (35).

After an emotional championship ring ceremony, the Los Angeles Lakers had their opening night spoiled by their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers.

The defending champions, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, fought a hard battle but clearly didn’t want the victory as badly as the Clippers did.

The Clippers came out of the gate strong, leading the Lakers at the end of the first quarter 39-19. But their massive lead wasn’t meant to last, with the Lakers clapping back with a dominant quarter of their own. At halftime, the score was neck in neck at 56-54.

Paul George led the Clippers’ second-half dominance, scoring 26 out of the 33 points he scored on the night. Superstar Kawhi Leonard chipped in with 26 points of his own.

The Lakers’ James and Davis chipped in 22 and 18 points, respectively, which isn’t great for their usual standards. However, one silver lining for the Lakers lay in the performance of their new acquisitions this summer. Montrezl Harrell, a former Clipper big man, put up 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lake Show, while Dennis Schroder added 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Nevertheless, these valiant efforts from the new Laker pickups weren’t enough to overcome the Clippers’ impressive first outing this season.

The final score was 116-109 in favor of the Clippers, which should give them a real confidence boost after their upset elimination in last season’s playoffs.

It appears that NBA veteran Pau Gasol doesn’t intend to finish his career just yet despite turning 40 this past summer. As a matter of fact, Gasol is currently working on his comeback and believes he can still be a contributor to a team.

In a recent chat with ESPN, Gasol said he hopes to prolong his career for at least one more season. He also hopes to earn a spot on Spain’s national team for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.

When asked about his preferred destination in the NBA, Gasol picked the Los Angeles Lakers. This wasn’t a surprising pick considering he has a history with the franchise, having won consecutive NBA titles in 2009 and 2010, and that his brother Marc Gasol will also play there next season.

“There is meaning and history there,” Gasol told ESPN. “I’m not going to lie. It would be very special, and now that my brother [Marc] is there, even more special. But I’m not in a position now to be very demanding. I don’t have 10 offers on the table.”

Pau Gasol struggled with injuries in the past two years and hasn’t played a single game in the NBA since March 2019. His most recent on-court action included three games with the Milwaukee Bucks in which he only contributed with 1.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest.

These issues seem to be behind Gasol now, as he already returned to workouts and is working on his fitness. Although it’s unclear to most how coveted his services will be, he admitted to receiving several training camp invitations in recent weeks.

Gasol has played for the Memphis Grizzlies, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Milwaukee Bucks during his 18 years in the NBA. Besides two championship rings and six All-Star nods, the Spaniard also has four All-NBA nods to his name.

All-Star Anthony Davis is staying with Los Angeles Lakers for five more years. Davis and Lakers agreed to a new five-year deal, worth $190 million.

The contract runs through the 2024-25 season and gives Davis an early termination option after the fourth year.

Davis’ agent Rich Paul confirmed the agreement in a chat with ESPN, adding that his client is expected to ink the contract in the following days.

Davis, who joined the Lakers last offseason in a blockbuster trade from the New Orleans Pelicans, reportedly didn’t even consider going elsewhere despite being an unrestricted free agent this summer. The only unknown revolved around the type of contract he will sign.

In recent weeks, the 27-year-old considered various scenarios that included both short-term and long-term commitments to the Lakers. In the end, he decided to play it safe and take the max offer.

In his first season with the Lakers, Davis helped the franchise win its first NBA Title since 2010 while playing some of his best basketball. During the regular season, Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game while earning First-Team All-NBA and All-Star nods and finishing runner-up in NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Davis’ production went up in the postseason, scoring 27.7 points per game while adding 9.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Locking Davis long-term comes just days after the Lakers also signed superstar LeBron James to a new contract. With the two on board, the franchise reassured basketball fans that they’ll remain in the title conversation for years to come.

Three-time All-Star center Marc Gasol decided to extend his NBA career despite the rumors that the 35-year-old player might return home and play in Spain next season. According to multiple reports, Gasol agreed to a two-year deal with Los Angeles Lakers and will follow the footsteps of his brother Pau.

This will be the first time that Gasol plays for the franchise that originally drafted him into the NBA. The Lakers selected Gasol with the 48th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft before trading him to Memphis Grizzlies a year later.

Despite Gasol reportedly signing to a veteran’s minimum contract, the Lakers needed to do some cap-space gymnastics in order to finalize the deal. This included sending JaVale McGee alongside a second-round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Gasol is the latest piece of business in a busy offseason that saw the Lakers add guard Dennis Schroder and snatching away reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year Montrezl Harell from Los Angeles Clippers.

Marc Gasol spent the previous two years with the Toronto Raptors, helping the franchise to its first NBA title in 2018/19. Last season, Gasol averaged career-low 7.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game but got his assists average to 3.3 while remaining a formidable defensive presence on the floor.

Gasol played most of his career with the Grizzlies, where he became one of the most impactful players in franchise history. Aside from three All-Star nods, he also had two All-NBA teams selections and was voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 while in Memphis.

Los Angeles Lakers have been in the center of trade rumors this offseason, being linked with names like All-Star guard Chris Paul and San Antonio Spurs’ DeMar DeRozan. However, it turns out that the Lakers had a completely unexpected name on their board.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are close to finalizing a deal with Oklahoma City Thunder that would see them acquire guard Dennis Schroder. In return, Thunder will receive the Lakers’ No. 28 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and forward Danny Green.

The deal is expected to be official on Wednesday when the NBA opens the transaction window.

Wojnarowski reports that the Lakers won’t be able to send the No. 28 pick to Thunder right away. They previously traded away their pick in 2019, and the league forbids teams to deal picks in consecutive years.

The most likely solution will be Thunder communicating to the Lakers and telling them which player to choose, with the Lakers later sending that player to OKC after they sign him to a rookie deal.

Dennis Schroder was pursued by several teams this offseason after he delivered a promising campaign in 2019/20 coming off the bench for Thunder. The 27-year-old player ended up averaging 18.9 points and 4.0 assists per game and finishing second in Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Lakers were on the market for a point guard for the better part of the offseason, looking to fix their depth on the position. They are likely to lose Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley in the offseason, which would leave them with Alex Caruso as the only viable option on the position.

By trading for Schroder, the Lakers now get a player who can not only make up for Rondo and Bradley’s absence, but would probably start over them if they stay.
