]]>According to the medical report released by the club on Wednesday afternoon, “Messi has elongated his left adductor. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.”
The Argentine superstar was forced out of Barcelona’s win at halftime after experiencing discomfort in his left inner thigh. Trainers and team doctors were seen massaging and attempting to treat the thigh in order to keep Messi in the game, but he was replaced by Ousmane Dembele after the break.
It’s a disappointing bit of news for Barcelona, as Messi is their most important player and had already missed the first four games of the season with a foot injury.
While the club hasn’t provided specifics about the severity of the adductor sprain, it doesn’t appear to be an overly serious injury. The dynamic forward is expected to miss Barcelona’s weekend league clash against Getafe, but his availability is unknown for next Wednesday’s Champions League game against Inter Milan.
Barcelona will cross its fingers that their star man will miss just a short period of time with his newest injury knock.

]]>Messi returned to Barcelona from his summer vacations last weekend after participating in Copa America with the Argentina national team. He attended, but did not play, in Barça’s Saturday friendly against Arsenal.
The forward strained his right calf during his first day back on the field on Monday and did not take the evening flight with the team from Barcelona to Miami. Barcelona will have to pay financially for Messi’s injury, as the forward was contractually obligated to play in the US matches.
Barcelona will take on Napoli twice on American soil as part of the International Champions Cup. Their first game against the Italian side will be on Wednesday night at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and then the two clubs will travel north to Ann Arbor, Michigan for a Saturday clash at Michigan Stadium.
Messi, however, will stay behind in Spain and attempt to rehab his calf strain. It’s still unknown whether or not La Liga’s three-time reigning top goal scorer will be ready for Barcelona’s first La Liga match on August 17 against Athletic Club.
