]]>Draisaitl scored four goals in Game 1 of the second-round series against Vegas on Wednesday night, and it still wasn’t enough to get a win for his team. No other Edmonton player managed to find the net, and Golden Knights ended up with a 4-6 victory to take the lead in the series.
Against Vegas, Draisaitl became the first Edmonton player to score four goals in a playoff game since Jari Kurri did it in 1987. He now leads the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs in goals (11) and points (15) while also becoming the fastest player in the history of the league to get to 11 goals in the postseason.
Despite playing a great game from an individual standpoint, Draisaitl focused on team performance during his chat with reporters after the game.
“We overall weren’t good enough,” said Draisaitl. “It’s not even close to how we successfully play. We’ve got to move on. We’ll be better.”
The Edmonton Oilers will now turn their attention to Game 2, scheduled for Saturday, and try to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole. In order to do so, they will have to play better defense and have other players step up alongside Draisaitl.

]]>This was Draisaitl’s third season with 50 or more goals since he became a pro. With captain Connor McDavid already netting 62 goals so far in the campaign, the Oilers are now the first team to have multiple players with 50 goals in a single season since 1995-96.
“It was a good night,” Draisaitl said after the game. “Lots of good plays by the guys around me, looking for me. I’m proud and very fortunate enough to have done it.”
Draisaitl has been the most consistent goal scorer in the NHL in the past five seasons. He has scored 229 goals during that time span, more than any other player in the league. Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews is in second place with 222 goals, while McDavid ranks third with 214 goals since the 2018-19 campaign.
“You don’t see it every day that someone gets to 50 and gets 100 points pretty much every year they’ve been in the league,” McDavid said of Draisaitl. “Really, really impressive. Can’t say enough good things about him. He’s been on a real tear.”

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and New York Rangers winger Artemi Panarin finished second and third in the voting for both Hart Memorial Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award.
By winning the award, Leon Draisaitl became the first German player to win the MVP award in NHL, and second in major sports after Dirk Nowitzki won one in NBA. Draisaitl is also only the fourth Oilers’ player to receive the Ted Lindsay Award, following the footsteps of Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Connor McDavid.
While dominating the regular season, Draisailt couldn’t help the Oilers make an impact in the playoffs, where they didn’t go past the qualifying round.
“It’s a nice personal reward,” said Draisaitl. “But there’s nothing that comes ahead of the Stanley Cup. That’s the same for any player in the league. If I could hand those two or three awards back in for a Stanley Cup, I would do that in a heartbeat, and I think so would everyone else.”
Draisailt completed his fifth NHL season in 2019/20. He played a total of 422 games in the league so far, scoring 168 goals and dishing 254 assists for a total of 422 points.
