Italian manager Massimiliano Allegri recently admitted that he had an offer from La Liga giants Real Madrid a couple of years ago. However, Allegri decided to reject the opportunity as he wanted to remain loyal to Juventus at the time.

After Zinedine Zidane left Real in 2018, they turned to Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari as his replacements, but both managers didn’t last long at the post. Club president Florentino Perez made a strong push for Allegri as a long-term solution but couldn’t convince the Italian.

“Two years ago, there was contact, but nothing came of it because I had a contract with Juve,” said Allegri in a chat with influential Spanish outlet Marca. “Furthermore, I had a strong moral commitment to the club and its fans.”

Real ended up bringing back Zidane in 2019, while Massimiliano Allegri remained with Juve and led the team to a Seria A title last season. However, he left the club shortly after that and remains unemployed since.

Allegri explained that the reason he still doesn’t have a club is because he wants to commit to the right project.

“I don’t really care [if my next job is in Italy or abroad],” he added. “I’m looking for a club to share a project with and which has the ambition to compete to win.”

Allegri spent his entire career in Italy, managing Cagliari, AC Milan, and Juventus, among other clubs. He has Seria A title and Supercoppa Italiana trophy with Milan alongside five domestic league titles and four Coppa Italias with Juve.

Juventus will be on the market for a new manager next season. The Seria A giants announced on Friday that their current manager Massimiliano Allegri is leaving the club following the end of the current season.

“Massimiliano Allegri will not be on the Juventus bench for the 2019/2020 season,” – Juve said in a statement posted on the club’s official website.

This comes after a series of meetings between Allegri and the club in the past several days. The two sides weighted potential options for the future and ended up agreeing to part ways. The 51-year-old manager will have his last match as Juventus’ manager on May 26th against Sampdoria.

Massimiliano Allegri joined Juventus in 2014, after previously serving as manager of A.C. Milan. Due to the rivalry between the two teams, Juve supporters weren’t happy with Allegri’s hiring, but he managed to easily shift the narrative by leading the club to five straight Seria A titles. He also won four straight Italian Cups during his tenure and led Juventus to two UEFA Champions League appearances.

Several teams have been mentioned as Allegri’s successor at Juventus, including Chelsea’s boss Maurizio Sarri, Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, and Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi. The name Antonio Conte, who previously served with the club between 2011 and 2014, is also mentioned as one of the candidates for the job.
