]]> Veteran center back Matt Hedges spent his entire professional career with FC Dallas and it looks like he isn’t thinking about a change of scenery anytime soon. Dallas announced on Tuesday that they have signed Hedges to a new three-year deal, which will keep him with the organization through 2022.

According to the official statement from the club, Hedges was signed using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM). Dallas will also have the option to keep the 29-year-old for two more years, holding club options for 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Hedges made 33 appearances in MLS in 2019, contributing with one goal and one assist. He also earned his first All-Star appearance.

“We’re thrilled that Matt has recommitted to FC Dallas on a long-term basis,” said Dallas’ president Dan Hunt. “He is an important part of what we’re doing here and we’re going to continue to build around that foundation.”

Since being drafted by FC Dallas in 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Matt Hedges has become irreplaceable in the team’s starting lineup. He made a total of 236 career starts in MLS’ regular season, scoring on 16 occasions and dishing three assists.

Hedges helped Dallas win U.S. Open Cup and Supporters’ Shield trophies, while also getting a number of individual accolades including the MLS Defender of the Year award in 2016.
