The Baltimore Ravens are bolstering their backfield with veteran running back Melvin Gordon, who is joining the team on a one-year deal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Gordon’s contract could be worth up to $3.1 million if he meets all the incentives.

Gordon spent the first half of 2022 season with the Denver Broncos in 2022, rushing for 318 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games. He was released by the Broncos after picking up his fifth fumble of the season in a Week 11 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

After his release, Gordon signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and was placed on the team’s practice squad. However, he wasn’t activated for a single game for the rest of the campaign.

Gordon, who was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Los Angeles Chargers, is expected to add depth and veteran experience to the Ravens’ running game. Despite his struggles last season, the 30-year-old player is only one year removed from back-to-back campaigns in which he averaged 4.5 yards per carry and combined for 1,904 rushing yards and 17 TDs.

The Ravens currently have 2020’s second-round pick J.K. Dobbins penciled as their starter, but Gordon could challenge veterans Gus Edwards and Justice Hill for the backup running back spot.

Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon won’t be getting a new contract in 2019, at least not from the Chargers. Chargers’ general manager Tom Telesco told reporters on Sunday that they are halting the contract talks with Gordon and won’t revisit them until the end of the season.

“When or if Melvin reports, he’ll play this season under his current contract, and we’ll just revisit it after the season,” – said Telesco in a conference call.

Gordon, who is set to earn $5.6 million in 2019, has been asking for a new deal for the entire offseason, and decided to skip the team’s preseason activities and training camp in order to get what he wanted. Chargers were willing to give him a contract extension reportedly worth $10 million per year, but the player refused as he is asking for a deal that would make him among the top paid RBs in the game.

With Melvin Gordon not showing signs that he is going to join the team or come down from his demands anytime soon, the Chargers decided to play hardball and even allowed his agent to explore trade options for the 26-year-old.

“I’m disappointed it has lasted this long. I pride myself in having solutions to problems, and I haven’t solved this one yet,” – Telesco added. “We know what he means to our team, and even bigger than that what he means to our organization. But the other side is we have a big game coming up this week with the Colts, and I’m confident in the players that we have on the field right now will play well.”

Gordon was one of the most productive Chargers’ players last year despite playing just 12 games. He rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also recording 50 receptions for 490 yards and four touchdowns.

Los Angeles Chargers’ running back Melvin Gordon wants to get paid this summer, and it seems like he doesn’t care which organization signs the check.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, Gordon’s agent Damarius Bilbo asked the Chargers to trade his client last week after the organization did not step up their contract offer. The 26-year-old reportedly wants a bigger figure than $10 million a year that the Chargers are offering.

Bilbo announced this turn of events in early July when he said that Gordon is serious about asking for trade if contract talks remain stalled while adding that his client feels “disrespected.”

“He’s very serious,” – said Bilbo at the time. “He’s worked his butt off, and the fifth-year option is a result of where he was drafted. It’s what it is. But if we’d gotten a respectable offer, we wouldn’t be here. But he felt disrespected. He’s very serious.”

Melvin Gordon is entering the final year of his rookie contract which paid him $5.6 million in 2019. He decided not to report to training camp and intends to hold out until he gets an extension. However, the Los Angeles Chargers remain unfazed by his absence for the time being. Chargers’ general manager Tom Telesco previously stated that the team does not intend to either trade Gordon or increase their offer.

Gordon played 12 games last season in which he 175 carries for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also added 50 receptions for 490 yards and four TDs.
