The club confirmed the news on social media, stating on Sunday that Ozil arrived in Turkey to “continue the transfer processes.”

Ozil has been out of favor with Arsenal for the past six months and was considering several offers in recent weeks. MLS side D.C. United reportedly made a strong offer to the 32-year-old star, but he ended up favoring the move to Turkey.

Despite Ozil’s desire to stay in North London and compete for a job with the team, it appears that the Gunners have decided that Ozil does not fit into their plans for the 2020-21 campaign.

Arsenal has reportedly made the decision to exclude the Turkish midfielder from their Premier League squad list of 25 players, meaning that he would be ineligible to compete in the team’s domestic league.

Ozil was already excluded from Arsenal’s Europa League squad of players, and his exclusion from the Premier League squad also makes him ineligible to play in England’s domestic cups. This means that Ozil is ineligible to play in every possible competition for the Gunners.

By employing this strategy, it appears that the club is attempting to force Ozil to leave in the January transfer window, or risk not playing at all for the rest of the season.

Ozil’s current contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, so whether or not he can be convinced to leave in January, his time with the club is on its last legs.
