Sano, who plays third base, first base, and designated hitter for the Twins, will take a break from baseball activities until mid-April and then return to the field in May if everything goes right.

The Dominican infielder had a tough 2018 season, hitting only .199 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs. He even spent some time in AAA. He also missed a couple of months with a different injury.

Despite his rough 2018, Sano has a solid pedigree in the big leagues and Minnesota will miss his presence in the lineup.

He has totaled 84 home runs in 4 career MLB seasons. Unfortunately, his career has been marred by occasional injuries which have made it hard for him to stay on the field.
