]]> Los Angeles Chargers confirmed on Wednesday that their center Mike Pouncey is set for a neck surgery this week that will sideline him for the rest of the year.

Pouncey injured his neck in Sunday’s loss to Denver Broncos and was forced to leave the game early. The injury turned out to be a lot more severe than it was initially percieved, with head coach Anthony Lynn unable to confirm that 30-year-old Pro Bowler’s career isn’t in jeopardy. 

Pouncey joined LA Chargers ahead of the 2018 NFL season, inking a two-year deal. He started all 16 games and earned a Pro Bowl appearance last season, which brought him a one-year extension in September.

Mike Pouncey’s injury is just one of the many setbacks that Chargers suffered in 2019. The team’s injury list is getting bigger and bigger as the season goes and already includes safety Derwin James, tight end Hunter Henry, defensive end Melvin Ingram, and offensive tackle Russell Okung, among others.

In order to replace Pouncey, Chargers signed guard/center Ryan Groy on Wednesday. Groy spent the past four years with the Buffalo Bills, where he started 16 games at center during that period.
