The Utah Jazz continued to bolster their roster in the NBA’s free agency period on Tuesday after locking up Jeff Green for the 2019-20 season on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Many throughout the league praised the Jazz, who finished with a 50-32 record and grabbed the 5th seed in the Western Conference, for the addition of the veteran wing player.

Dwyane Wade, one of Green’s friend in the league, posted this tweet upon hearing that Green had signed his third consecutive one-year deal for small amounts of money.

The rest of the league’s loss will be the Jazz’s gain, as they add the productive veteran forward to bolster a roster that has already seen the additions of Mike Conley Jr. and Bojan Bogdanovic.

Green, who spent the 2018-19 season with the Washington Wizards, broke into the league with the Boston Celtics in 2007. Since then, he’s averaged 13.2 points per game and has shot 33.3% from 3-point range.

He’s a consistent veteran player who will provide the Jazz with good perimeter defense and a scoring boost. His steady hand and experience will also be useful for a young team that has aspirations to do big things next season.

The Jazz begin their preseason slate in October.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a big pick-up on the first day of NBA free agency as they signed veteran big man Al Horford to a reported four-year, $109 million deal. It was the second piece of good news for the Sixers on a day where they also closed a five-year contract extension with forward Tobias Harris.

The 33-year-old forward/center spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Atlanta Hawks, where he established himself as one of the most consistent and productive big men in the league. The former 3rd overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft made four All-Star teams during his tenure in Atlanta.

Horford then moved to Boston to play with the Celtics for the 2016-17 season, where he became an integral part of three straight playoff teams. Like a fine wine, Horford got better with age while in Boston, putting up his best overall season last year with a 13.6 point, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game line in only 29 minutes per game. He shot 53.5% from the field.

Now, the University of Florida alum will have the opportunity to pair up with young sensation Joel Embiid down low in the Sixers’ frontcourt, a tantalizing proposition for a team that will have big dreams to contend for the Eastern Conference crown.

The Sixers are expected to make the signing official later this week.

While the NBA Finals might be dominating the basketball world right now, the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets couldn’t resist getting in on the action.

According to multiple NBA sources, the Nets agreed to flip guard Allen Crabbe, the number 17 pick in this year’s draft, and a protected first-round pick in the 2020 draft in exchange for Taurean Prince and a 2021 draft selection in the second round.

For Brooklyn, this move is about moving away Crabbe’s expensive contract in hopes of a big free agent spending spree this summer.

After moving away the $18.5 million that Crabbe is owed for next season, the Nets now have the ability to sign two max free agents on the market this summer.

Brooklyn has long been seen as a potential landing spot for free agent names such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

The Hawks, despite taking on a big salary cap hit with the acquisition of Crabbe, are in a position to reap the rewards of this trade. Atlanta will add two first round picks, which will be used to help the Hawks continue to work towards a rebuild.

It’s a win-win for both teams, and should help each one move closer to its goals.

After only one season on the job with the Phoenix Suns, team management has decided to let head coach Igor Kokoskov go.

Hired at the last off-season as the first European-born head coach in the history of the NBA, expectations were low considering the Suns’ current rebuild. Nonetheless, Phoenix brass still decided that Kokoskov wasn’t the man for the job after evaluating his work with the team this season.

Kokoskov was hired by the Suns after spending 18 seasons working as an assistant coach in the league. After impressive work as a Jazz assistant, Phoenix decided to take a chance on the Serbian-born coach.

In fact, Kokoskov also holds the distinction of having been the first full-time assistant coach born in Europe to be an NCAA assistant coach when he was hired by the Missouri Tigers in 1999, as well as also being the first NBA assistant coach from outside of the USA.

Phoenix fell short of the admittedly low expectations set for them this season, finishing with a 19-63 record. This was the worst mark in the Western Conference and the second-worst in the NBA.

For these reasons, plus the Suns’ desire to pursue 76ers assistant Monty Williams this season, Suns GM James Jones simply decided to cut short the marriage between the two parties.
