Green was forced off of the court in the Rockets’ Thursday preseason matchup against the defending champion Toronto Raptors with a foot injury, and it appears that the worst-case scenario has come true.

The 33-year-old veteran, who has been with the Rockets for a season and a half, is still waiting to see if he will need surgery on the foot. If he does, he could be out for several months, putting his availability for most of the season in jeopardy.

While he isn’t a starter, Green has been and is expected to be a key member of the team’s rotation. He appeared in 73 regular-season games for Houston last season, scoring 9.2 points per game in only 20.2 minutes of action per game.

The Rockets’ depth at the wing, which was already considered thin before Green’s injury, will now be tested further. Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker are the team’s only two other options at the position.

The team will wait for a decision on surgery before deciding how and if to alter their roster before the beginning of the season.

The big man suffered the right thumb strain after swiping for a ball in the first quarter of the Lakers’ 91-77 loss to the Brooklyn Nets in China. He initially stayed in the game, but was then forced to leave.

Davis returned to the Lakers’ bench with his injured thumb taped up and with an ice pack attached after receiving treatment in the locker room. He finished the game with 6 points and 3 rebounds in only 12 minutes of action.

The former Pelicans forward is expected to undergo tests in Los Angeles on Monday after the team’s long return trip from the Far East, but the injury is not believed to be overly serious. Lakers fans, however, will be left to bite their nails until a further diagnosis is confirmed by the team.

The Lakers hope that their new big addition will be good to go for the team’s season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday, October 22nd at the Staples Center. He is expected to help the team compete for the NBA Title, which the Lakers haven’t been able to bring home since the 2009-2010 season.
