Jacksonville Jaguars are moving on from quarterback Nick Foles just one year after giving him the biggest guaranteed contract in franchise history. ESPN reports that Jags agreed to trade Foles to Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2020 NFL Draft.

From Jacksonville’s standpoint, the trade probably ensures that the second-year QB Gardner Minshew will now be installed as a full-time starter after posting a 4-4 record in 2019. There is also a possibility for Jags to move up in the draft and select a quarterback as the Bears’ fourth-rounder now gives them 12 picks in 2020.

Chicago, on the other side, fulfills the goal to bring in a veteran competition for their young QB Mitchell Trubisky. The former No.2 overall pick struggled to make an impact last season despite a talented Bears’ roster, and the team wanted to make sure they have another option if Trubisky doesn’t make progress. Foles, who led the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl in 2017, gives them just that.

As part of the trade, Foles reportedly also agreed to restructure his contract. While the new terms won’t affect his salary, he now has an option to void the year 2021 or 2022, depending on how things work out.

This wasn’t an unexpected move, as it is believed that Jaguars were shopping Nick Foles for some time now. Jacksonville signed the 31-year-old signal-caller to a massive four-year, $88 million contract in 2018 with the intention of making him their franchise QB. Things didn’t pan out the way the organization envisioned, as Foles got hurt in the season opener and missed significant time with Minshew stepping in. He returned in week 11, but poor performances got him benched and eventually panned his way out of Jacksonville.

Over the course of his time with the Jags, Foles played four games and threw for 736 yards, three Ts, and two interceptions.

Jacksonville Jaguars might have another struggling season after their franchise quarterback Nick Foles suffered a broken left collarbone in their Week 1 game against Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Jags were forced to place Foles on the Injured Reserve list following surgery on Monday, and he will be out at least until November.

Jaguars signed Foles in March to replace inconsistent Blake Bortles and hoped he could lead them to more prominent playoff success like he previously did with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Super Bowl MVP from 2017, however, only spent less than one quarter on the field before having to exit the game. Until then, he completed five out of eight passes attempted for 75 yards and one touchdown.

If Foles’ recovery ends up going according to plan, he would be eligible to come from IR list on November 3rd for Week 10 game against Houston Texans.

Until Foles returns, Jags had to find a temporary solution, so they went ahead and acquired Pittsburgh Steelers’ Josh Dobbs in a trade on Monday. Jacksonville sent 2020 fifth-rounder to Pittsburgh as part of the deal.

Dobbs was Steelers’ fourth-round pick in 2017, but hasn’t played much since entering the league. He only attempted 12 passes and has 43 passing yards with one interception over the course of his NFL career.

Super Bowl LII MVP and former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has wrapped up his free short-lived free agency. According to multiple sources, including NFL Network and ESPN, Foles agreed to a deal with Jacksonville Jaguars.

ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reports that Foles will receive a four-year, $88 million contract from the Jags. The deal will include $50.125 million in guaranteed money, which will be the highest guarantee in the franchise’s history.

Jacksonville is expected to release QB Blake Bortles, who was Jags’ starter since 2014, as soon as Foles officially becomes a member of the team.

Ever since Eagles announced that they would let Nick Foles enter the free agency in late February, Jacksonville Jaguars emerged as a firm favorite to land him. Jags were eager to find another franchise quarterback, as Bortles struggled mightily in 2018, and they focused their efforts mainly on Foles, who was the best free agent available on the position. Considering the contract they gave to the 30-year-old, Jaguars feel like they got their man and will now focus their attention on improving in other areas.

Nick Foles started his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, who took him in the third round of 2012 NFL Draft. After several up and downs during his three seasons with the team, Foles was traded to the St. Louis/LA Rams in 2015, where he spent one season before going to Kansas City Chiefs.

Foles returned to the Eagles as a backup in 2017 but ended up taking over the starting job after Carson Wentz tore his ACL late in the regular season. He managed to lead Philly to a remarkable Super Bowl run and bring the city their Vince Lombardi trophy. Then in 2018, he stepped once again for Wentz and took the team to the playoff and one postseason win.
