The Indianapolis Colts will have their third starting quarterback this season when they face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16. According to the Colts’ interim head coach Jeff Saturday, veteran Nick Foles will get a shot under center for the upcoming Monday Night Football game.

The Colts had 2016’s NFL MVP Matt Ryan and second-year signal caller Sam Ehlinger as starters this season. Ryan was initially benched for Ehlinger in Week 8 before getting the job back in Week 10. Neither of the two QBs managed to produce on a consistent basis when given the opportunity, which is probably why Saturday is now rolling the dice with Foles.

“Think the world of Matt, he’s a pro’s pro. It’s not been the season he expected, nor the Colts as a whole,” said Saturday about his decision. “Ultimately, I feel like Nick will give us a better chance to go win these last three games.”

Foles arrived in Indy on a two-year deal during the offseason to serve as Ryan’s backup. However, he never got the chance to play once Ryan got benched, as the Colts wanted to see what they had in Ehlinger.

The former Super Bowl MVP had his last meaningful action in Week 16 of the 2021 season when he started for the Chicago Bears. In what turned out to be his only game of the season, Foles threw for 250 yards and a touchdown to lead the Bears to a 25-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback room looks a lot more formidable in 2022 than last season. After trading for former MVP Matt Ryan to be their new starter earlier in the offseason, the Colts added a former Super Bowl MVP to serve as his backup.

The Colts announced on Monday that they had signed signal-caller Nick Foles. The veteran, who was released by the Chicago Bears earlier this month, inked a two-year agreement. The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.

The move will reunite Foles with the Colts’ head coach Frank Reich. The duo previously worked together in Philadelphia, where Reich was an offensive coordinator, and Foles quarterbacked the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII win. The chance to work again with Reich was probably determining factor in Foles’ decision to sign with Indy as he had multiple other suitors in recent weeks, including the Eagles.

Nick Foles arrives in Indianapolis after several seasons in which he struggled to perform at a high level consistently. Since leaving Philly after the 2018 NFL season, Foles suited up for Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears. The 33-year-old player started 12 games altogether for the Jags and the Bears, going 3-9 and throwing just 13 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions. He failed to make a single appearance in 2022.

The injuries have forced the Chicago Bears to turn to veteran Nick Foles at the quarterback position. Foles, who hasn’t played at all in 2021, is set to start under center for the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. The news was confirmed by the Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy during a press conference on Friday.

Chicago lost their starter Justin Fields on Monday after the rookie suffered an ankle injury in a 17-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. They also can’t count on Andy Dalton, who was their Week 1 starter, since the veteran is still recovering from a recent groin injury.

The Bears also have rookie QB Ryan Willis on their roster, signing the Virginia Tech product to their practice squad earlier this month. Willis could get the job to back up Foles, but that will only be the case if Fields doesn’t recover enough to fill that role, according to Nagy.

“It would probably be more of an emergency situation, and we just have to see where Justin’s at percentage-wise, where it doesn’t risk his health but he’s able to help us,” said Nagy “If that’s not the best thing to do, trust me, we’re going to go ahead and go with Ryan.”

Nick Foles joined the Bears in 2020 in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first season with the franchise, Foles started seven games, throwing for 1,852 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Chicago went 2-5 in that period.

Jacksonville Jaguars are moving on from quarterback Nick Foles just one year after giving him the biggest guaranteed contract in franchise history. ESPN reports that Jags agreed to trade Foles to Chicago Bears in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2020 NFL Draft.

From Jacksonville’s standpoint, the trade probably ensures that the second-year QB Gardner Minshew will now be installed as a full-time starter after posting a 4-4 record in 2019. There is also a possibility for Jags to move up in the draft and select a quarterback as the Bears’ fourth-rounder now gives them 12 picks in 2020.

Chicago, on the other side, fulfills the goal to bring in a veteran competition for their young QB Mitchell Trubisky. The former No.2 overall pick struggled to make an impact last season despite a talented Bears’ roster, and the team wanted to make sure they have another option if Trubisky doesn’t make progress. Foles, who led the Philadelphia Eagles to Super Bowl in 2017, gives them just that.

As part of the trade, Foles reportedly also agreed to restructure his contract. While the new terms won’t affect his salary, he now has an option to void the year 2021 or 2022, depending on how things work out.

This wasn’t an unexpected move, as it is believed that Jaguars were shopping Nick Foles for some time now. Jacksonville signed the 31-year-old signal-caller to a massive four-year, $88 million contract in 2018 with the intention of making him their franchise QB. Things didn’t pan out the way the organization envisioned, as Foles got hurt in the season opener and missed significant time with Minshew stepping in. He returned in week 11, but poor performances got him benched and eventually panned his way out of Jacksonville.

Over the course of his time with the Jags, Foles played four games and threw for 736 yards, three Ts, and two interceptions.

Jacksonville Jaguars might have another struggling season after their franchise quarterback Nick Foles suffered a broken left collarbone in their Week 1 game against Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Jags were forced to place Foles on the Injured Reserve list following surgery on Monday, and he will be out at least until November.

Jaguars signed Foles in March to replace inconsistent Blake Bortles and hoped he could lead them to more prominent playoff success like he previously did with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Super Bowl MVP from 2017, however, only spent less than one quarter on the field before having to exit the game. Until then, he completed five out of eight passes attempted for 75 yards and one touchdown.

If Foles’ recovery ends up going according to plan, he would be eligible to come from IR list on November 3rd for Week 10 game against Houston Texans.

Until Foles returns, Jags had to find a temporary solution, so they went ahead and acquired Pittsburgh Steelers’ Josh Dobbs in a trade on Monday. Jacksonville sent 2020 fifth-rounder to Pittsburgh as part of the deal.

Dobbs was Steelers’ fourth-round pick in 2017, but hasn’t played much since entering the league. He only attempted 12 passes and has 43 passing yards with one interception over the course of his NFL career.

Super Bowl LII MVP and former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has wrapped up his free short-lived free agency. According to multiple sources, including NFL Network and ESPN, Foles agreed to a deal with Jacksonville Jaguars.

ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reports that Foles will receive a four-year, $88 million contract from the Jags. The deal will include $50.125 million in guaranteed money, which will be the highest guarantee in the franchise’s history.

Jacksonville is expected to release QB Blake Bortles, who was Jags’ starter since 2014, as soon as Foles officially becomes a member of the team.

Ever since Eagles announced that they would let Nick Foles enter the free agency in late February, Jacksonville Jaguars emerged as a firm favorite to land him. Jags were eager to find another franchise quarterback, as Bortles struggled mightily in 2018, and they focused their efforts mainly on Foles, who was the best free agent available on the position. Considering the contract they gave to the 30-year-old, Jaguars feel like they got their man and will now focus their attention on improving in other areas.

Nick Foles started his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, who took him in the third round of 2012 NFL Draft. After several up and downs during his three seasons with the team, Foles was traded to the St. Louis/LA Rams in 2015, where he spent one season before going to Kansas City Chiefs.

Foles returned to the Eagles as a backup in 2017 but ended up taking over the starting job after Carson Wentz tore his ACL late in the regular season. He managed to lead Philly to a remarkable Super Bowl run and bring the city their Vince Lombardi trophy. Then in 2018, he stepped once again for Wentz and took the team to the playoff and one postseason win.
