]]>According to British media outlet Sky Sports, Newcastle is keen to add a player who can help them score goals but who also has experience of playing in the Premier League. Ighalo fits the bill as he scored 40 goals in 100 appearances while with Watford.
Ighalo is currently playing in Saudi Arabia, where he’s been having a productive season with Al Shabab that sees him sitting at the top of the goal-scoring list with nine goals. Despite this, the sources close to the player indicated that the 32-year-old would be open to returning to Premier League if Newcastle makes an official approach.
The only obstacle might be Odion Ighalo’s contract with Al Shabab, which runs through the summer of 2023. Still, Newcastle has money to spend and would likely be able to convince the Saudi Arabia club to budge if they really want their man.
Throughout his career, Ighalo also played for Udinese, Granada, and a couple of clubs in China. He spent portions of 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons with Manchester United, scoring five goals in 23 matches.

]]>Ighalo is set to end his lone stint with Man Utd on January 31st and return to China’s Shanghai Shenhua. If neither club is ready to have him after that he is looking to the MLS to give him an opportunity.
“At the end of the month, we have to decide what is best and we’ll take it,” said Ighalo. “If it’s possible I’d like to play in MLS but I have to wait to see if it’s possible.”
Odion Ighalo was a surprising pickup for Manchester United last season, arriving as a replacement for injured Marcus Rashford. Still, Ighalo managed to put together some good performances and score five goals in 19 games.
This season, however, playing time is rare for him as the club got a more proven option upfront in Edinson Cavani. Ighalo only made four appearances in 2020-21 in all competitions while playing just nine minutes of Premier League soccer.
Ighalo previously suited up for Lyn, Udinese, and Watford, among other clubs. He also represented Nigeria on the international level 35 times and has 16 goals with the national team.
