]]>In order to qualify for a spot on Great Britain’s Olympic team, the 2021 Wimbledon winner would need to represent her national team at least twice in the four years leading up to the event.
Currently ranked 72 in the WTA Women’s Singles World Rankings, Raducanu declared herself “unavailable” to play in the upcoming tie, claiming that she was unaware of the date when the event would take place. She has now not represented Great Britain in over a year.
Raducanu stated that she had been advised against playing in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier due to the quick change in surfaces between the tournament and those that she will be attending as part of her singles’ calendar. The BJK Cup is played on a hard court, while her next event, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, is played on a clay court.
โI think because of my existing injuries, the best medical advice was to not switch surfaces at such short notice. So that’s what I’ve been told,โ the 20-year-old confirmed following her exit from the Miami Open.

]]>The players from the United States hauled 113 medals, including 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze. China had 38 gold medals and 88 overall in second place, while ROC ranked third with 71 medals.
Team USA had an overwhelming lead entering the final day of the Olympics in overall medal count but found itself behind China in the gold medal count. The difference was made up thanks to the women’s basketball team, who got the gold with a dominant 90-75 win over Japan, as well as cyclist Jennifer Valente, who finished at the top of the omnium points race, and the women’s volleyball team. The final gold medal for Team USA was also a historic one as it marked the first time that the United States claimed Olympic gold in women’s volleyball.
The United States swimming team gave the biggest contribution to the gold medal count, winning 11 competitions. Swimmer Caeleb Dressel was also the most decorated U.S. Olympian in Tokyo, winning five gold medals.
Iconic sprinter Allyson Felix also gave her contribution, helping Team USA to win the 4x400m relay gold medal on top of her bronze in the individual 400m. This gave Felix her 10th and 11th Olympic medals, making her the most decorated track athlete in U.S. history.
The next Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in three years. The Olympics will be held in Paris, France, from 26th July to 11th August 2024.

]]>“Since I won the French Open in 2009, the media has been chopping on this topic. But it is already clear that I am at the end of my career,” Federer explained in a magazine interview. “I can not say what will be in two years. That’s why I plan year after year. I’m still happy right now. But when the cogwheels don’t grip anymore, I stop.”
Federer also expressed his intention to continue enjoying tennis long after his retirement from the professional sport, thereby exhibiting his passion for the game.
After undergoing knee surgery, the former world number one player is expected to once again be match fit in January 2021. By the time he participates in the Tokyo Olympics, it will be his fifth Olympic outing. Federer won the men’s doubles title alongside countryman Stan Wawrinka at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

]]>Canadian Olympic Committee (COI) announced the news on Sunday.
“While we recognize the inherent complexities around a postponement, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our athletes and the world community,” said COI in a statement. “This is not solely about athlete health — it is about public health.”
Canada has a significant number of athletes on Olympics each year, with the number of those representing the country reaching 314 at Rio games in 2016. Canada won a total of 22 medals that year, including four gold ones.
IOC made it clear that the final decision on the Olympic Games, scheduled to take place between July 24th and August 9th, will be made in the next four weeks. However, a number of countries have pressed on the committee to postpone the games for the next year, including Slovenia, Norway, and Brazil. Some countries like Australia are also taking a similar approach and have advised their athletes to prepare like the Olympics won’t be held this year.
U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Sarah Hirshland, on the other hand, announced that the United States won’t be taking a stand on the postponement. According to Hirshland, the U.S. will follow the IOC’s recommendations regarding this matter.

]]>The members of the International Olympic Committee finally voted on the location and they chose Northern Italy as the site of the 2026 Winter Olympics, with hosting to be shared by the Milan and the Alpine ski resort of Cortina dโAmpezzo. The resort will be the host of the Winter Olympics for the second time in its history, after hosting the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1956. The opening ceremony will be held at San Siro in Milan and the closing ceremony will be held in the Verona Arena.
The Italian bid was chosen over a dual bid between Stockholm and the ski resort of Are in Sweden. Given the amount of public support for Italy as the next location, the result was more or less expected. The last time that Italy hosted the Winter Olympics was back in 2006 when the event was held in Turin.
