The Orlando Magic forward Chuma Okeke is expected to be sidelined for at least a month after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee Monday. The goal of the procedure is to repair and reshape the damaged cartilage in his joint.

Ultimately, Magic will hope that the procedure will bring an end to some of Okeke’s injury woes—the 24-year-old player has missed the past 14 games as a result of this setback. Initially labeled as “left knee soreness”, Okeke was first sidelined on November 21.

“That’s the same knee he’s dealt with before,” Magic coach Jamahl Mosley commented, referring to the ACL injury that Okeke incurred months before being drafted into the NBA. “A part of this is being careful so things don’t get any worse. We want to stay cautious with our guys and make sure we try to get healthy bodies back.”

In 18 games this season, Okeke has averaged 5.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 21.8 minutes a game. He has started a total of 46 games for Orlando across his career, averaging 7.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.

The Orlando Magic confirmed that their second-year guard Jalen Suggs suffered a knee injury in a 105-110 preseason win over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday Night.

According to the Magic, Suggs is dealing with a left knee capsule sprain and bone bruise. His return to action will depend on “how he responds to treatment.”

Suggs was injured late in the first quarter of the Dallas game after colliding with Mavs’ forward Dorian Finney-Smith. The last year’s fifth-overall pick needed help to get off the floor, and the Magic initially feared he might have sustained a serious injury. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

During his rookie season, Suggs averaged 11.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in Magic’s jersey. He was limited to 48 games due to a thumb fracture in 2021-22 and underwent ankle surgery during the offseason.

Orlando will hope that Suggs can return to the court as soon as possible, considering that they are already thin at the guard position. The team previously lost Markelle Fultz, who went down with a toe fracture before the start of the training camp. Fultz is currently considered out indefinitely, and it is unclear when he could make his return to the court.

It appears that Orlando Magic’s guard Markelle Fultz just can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries. The team confirmed on Sunday that Fultz is dealing with a fractured toe and will be out indefinitely.

According to the announcement, Fultz has been placed in a walking booth but won’t require surgery. He will be re-evaluated at a later point, and his return will depend on the progress of his rehabilitation. The Magic also revealed that the 2017’s first overall pick suffered the fracture while taking part in the preseason workout.

According to Khobi Price of the Orlando Sentinel, Fultz will miss the training camp while recovering from the injury. It won’t be surprising if he misses part of the regular season as well. The 24-year-old is entering the second year of his three-year, $50 million contract with the franchise.

The injuries have been the story of Markelle Fultz’s NBA career so far. After being the no.1 pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017, Fultz struggled with a shoulder injury that severely affected his ability to shoot the ball throughout his first two seasons as a pro. He managed to play only 29 games for the 76ers before being traded to Magic.

Fultz showed promise in his first season with the Magic, averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 assists while playing 72 games in 2019-20. The Washington Huskies product also had an encouraging start to the 2020-21 campaign before tearing his ACL.

Fultz returned from the ACL injury in the second part of the 2021-22 season, appearing in 18 games and averaging 10.8 points per game.

The Orlando Magic had a fire-sale at the NBA trade deadline, moving on from All-Star center Nikola Vucevic, forward Aaron Gordon, and guard Evan Fournier in a matter of hours.

All three players were traded in separate deals, with Vucevic heading to the Chicago Bulls, Gordon joining the Denver Nuggets, and Fournier becoming a new member of Boston Celtics.

Magic got the biggest haul for Vucevic, receiving two first-round picks (2021, 2023), veteran Otto Porter, and former No.7 pick Wendell Carter Jr. from the Bulls.  The 30-year-old picked up his second All-Star nod this season and averages career-high 24.5 points to go with 11.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Nuggets had to pay a steep price to get their hands on Gordon as well. Denver gave up first-rounders, guard Gary Harris, and R.J. Hampton, their top selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Reportedly, Orlando’s forward Gary Clarke is also included in the trade and will follow Gordon.

Gordon, who was the No.4 pick in 2014, is putting up 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season.

It seems like the Celtics got the best deal, only parting with two second-round picks to land Fournier. The 28-year-old Frenchman is having a career-year at the moment, scoring 19.7 points on average.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Keith Smith, this trade could be expanded by the end of the trade deadline, as two teams remain engaged in talks about few other players.

Orlando Magic disappointed in 2020/21 despite entering the season with playoff aspirations. They currently own the second-worst record in Eastern Conference, and the likely chance to pick high in the lottery this year probably influenced the franchise’s decision to move on from their best players.

While the Magic might be a bad team short-term after these deals, their future does look bright. The trades allowed them to gain valuable draft capital and promising players while already having a talented young core with former No.6 pick Jonathan Isaac and ex-first overall pick Markelle Fultz.

Orlando Magic guard Markelle Fultz tore his left ACL in the early goings of a 105-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. He will miss the entire season, according to the Magic.

The injury occurred just five minutes into the game. Fultz was driving to the basket and was cut off by Cleveland’s Isaac Okoro, after which his left knee buckled without having any contact with Okoro. Fultz spent several minutes on the floor in very visible pain after which the training staff brought a wheelchair out to help take him to the locker room.

Fultz was picked first overall in the 2017 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He then struggled for several years in Philadelphia because of a shoulder ailment that was very hard to diagnose and treat. It was determined to be thoracic outlet syndrome, a nerve issue that diminishes feeling in your arm and hand.

Fultz was later traded to Orlando in 2019 where he began to finally achieve the potential that many saw in him when he was drafted.

He just recently signed a three-year extension with the Magic worth $50 million. Orlando was off to a great start this season, boasting one of the best records in the league.

Fultz came into Wednesday’s game with the Cavs averaging a career-best 14.2 points. He was also averaging 6.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds over the first seven games of the season.

The Orlando Magic announced on Monday that the team has signed talented duo Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac to rookie extensions. The Magic drafted Isaac with the No. 6 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft while acquiring Fultz from the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019. Fultz was the first overall pick in the same year Isaac was drafted.

According to reports, Fultz inked a three-year extension that will keep him with the franchise through 2023-24 and earn him $50 million in the process.

Isaac, on the other hand, will earn $80 million over the course of four years and will be under contract through the 2024-25 NBA season.

“We are thrilled to keep both Markelle [Fultz] and Jonathan [Isaac] in a Magic uniform,” said Orlando’s president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman in a statement. “They both have a very bright future and they mean a lot to our organization, both on and off the court.”

Markelle Fultz struggled early in his NBA career, experiencing issues with thoracic outlet syndrome, but delivered a promising campaign in 2019-20 for the Magic. He played 59 games during the regular season and averaged 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

Jonathan Isaac also had eye-catching performances last season, posting career-highs all over the board. He contributed 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while also being a strong defensive presence on the court, averaging 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks. Unfortunately for Isaac, his breakthrough season came to an early end as he tore his ACL during the NBA bubble in Orlando.

Orlando Magic shooting guard Terrence Ross noted some discomfort in his foot during pre-season training on Monday. After the team decided to perform an MRI on the veteran player, a hairline fracture was discovered in his big toe.

Ross, who joined the Magic at the trade deadline in 2017, has become Orlando’s top option off the bench in his three and a half seasons in central Florida.

The former Washington Huskies star was back up to his old tricks last season, scoring 14.7 points and pulling down 3.2 rebounds per game in 69 games. He managed to do this while coming off the bench, helping the Magic make the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Ross’ health status is now a point of concern for the Magic, who are looking to Ross to provide the same scoring spark off the bench as they try to take a step forward in the Eastern Conference hierarchy.

The team says that Ross will continue to take part in non-contract practice activities and that he won’t be completely sidelined by this new injury. However, the team did not specify when he might be able to return to contact work and if he might miss the beginning of the upcoming season.

Ross will look to get healthy over the coming weeks in a bid to be available for the Magic’s December 23rd season opener against the Miami Heat.

The NBA Playoffs’ second day on Tuesday saw a couple of big surprises, as the #1 seeded teams in both conferences surprisingly lost to the #8 seeds in their opening round games.

The Milwaukee Bucks were the first #1 seed to go down, as the top regular season team in the East fell to the Magic 122-110, who had the worst regular season record of any qualifying playoff team at 33-40. Not only were the Magic a heavy underdog, but they were also missing star player Jonathan Isaac, who went down with an injury prior to the start of the playoffs.

That didn’t matter on Tuesday in Orlando, however, as center Nikola Vucevic’s monster 35 points, 14 rebound performances was enough to get past the Bucks, who now find themselves in an unexpected hole going into Thursday night’s Game 2.

Things didn’t go much better for the West’s #1 seed, as the Lakers also lost their opening game to the Trail Blazers by a 100-93 final. LeBron James’ 23 points, 17 rebounds, 16 assist triple-double wasn’t enough to carry his team to a victory over the inspired Blazers and Damian Lillard.

Lillard continued his hot shooting, torching an LA team that didn’t get much offensive production outside of James and Anthony Davis for 34 points.

The Lakers and Bucks will both have a shot to even up their respective series on Thursday night.

Orlando Magic will have move forward in 2019/20 without their 2017’s first-round pick Jonathan Isaac. The 22-old player tore his ACL in Sunday night’s 132-116 win against Sacramento Kings and is facing a lengthy break.

Isaac suffered the injury with 9:19 left in regulation while driving to the basket between two Kings’ players. He had a bad landing after a hop step and immediately fell to the ground grabbing his left knee. Up to that point, he had four points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Magic confirmed the nature of Isaac’s injury on social media, saying that the player will be out indefinitely and that his return to action will depend on how “he responds to treatment and rehabilitation.”

The appearance against the Kings was just Isaac’s second since January, as he only recently recovered from knee hyperextension that previously caused him to miss 31 games.

“That was tough, man,” said his teammate Aaron Gordon after the game. “That one brought me to tears, and instantly — just because I know how good of a guy J.I. is and how hard he works and how hard he has worked to get back since hurting himself in D.C. That was tough.”

Jonathan Isaac was Magic’s sixth overall pick in 2017. The 2019/20 shaped up to be his best season since turning pro, as he was averaging career highs in points (11.9), rebounds (6.8), assists (1.4), steals (1.6) and blocks (2.3) per game.

The NBA is back in full swing in Orlando following the lengthy coronavirus shutdown. 12 teams took to the court on Day 4 of the action, with plenty of talking points after what was a round of high-scoring action.

The Houston Rockets grabbed a surprise 120-116 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. While a lot was expected from the Bucks, particularly last year’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Houston did a great job of patching up their shaky defense. The Rockets managed to outperform the Bucks in terms of 3-pointers as well as rebounds.

San Antonio Spurs kept their playoff hopes alive by narrowly defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 108-106. While they were in real danger of missing the playoffs for the first time what felt like forever, they’ve enjoyed a tremendous set of results since the season restart, leapfrogging the Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Sacramento Kings to grab the number nine spot in the Western Conference standings.

The biggest winners of the day appeared to be Orlando Magic, who comfortably dismantled the Sacramento Kings 132-116. Orlando now finds themselves in 7th place on the Eastern Conference standings, with a great chance of making the playoffs.
